I remember a segment from Bill Nyes old show when a kid wanted to live in a world without batteries. I only remember this because after the batteries decided to vanish (they're sentient, naturally) the kid tried to play his Gameboy without a game in it.

According to Wikipedia, Zinc is necessary for the production of testosterone, and Zinc deficiency can cause Hypogonadism and delayed puberty.
