All the craziness around that Fyre Festival fiasco had me remembering this. I'm a bit short on all the specifics, but the summary is that several years ago a group of wealthy Ayn Rand fans decided they were going to escape the oppressive USA by building a community in Chile that would be inspired by the ending of Atlas Shrugged. Except it turned out to be a real estate scam and the guy who was "founding" it all took the money and ran, and now a series of lawsuits are pending over it. Now, far be it for me to laugh at people for getting ripped off, but just like with Fyre Festival there are some amusing ironies. For instance, a group of people who apparently view themselves as geniuses in the Ayn Rand mold apparently didn't realize trying to build a community based off s fictional place that is supppsed to be protected by an invisibility cloaking device may not have been the most realistic of ventures, or how this was intended to get away from the government they do hate-only for them to turn to that government to try to get their money back. I may not be as really cute as them, but I feel smarter for sure.
