The first Saturday in May is Free Comic Book Day.
Go visit your local comic book store and see what they have going on.
I plan to take the kids first thing in the morning.

Looking forward to that Spectacular Spider-Man book. It'll be the first Spidey I've read in years.

PSA: Be sure to buy a few things too on top of getting free comics to help your local comic shops.

PSA: Be sure to buy a few things too on top of getting free comics to help your local comic shops. Many LCS will be having sales on comics, too, mostly things like back issues and graphic novels, but still!

Is it usually super crowded? I like to support local shops, and I want that I Hate Image book but I don't want to sift through an unruly crowd on my one day off.
An unruly crowd that might be chattering away with GotG 2 spoilers to boot.

The place I go to always has a big crowd, but they tend to be happy and friendly. and the store always gives out coupons to encourage repeat customers.

My definites this year - Doctor Who, Guardians of the Galaxy, Tick, TMNT. My maybes - Rick and Morty, Star Trek TNG, Super Hero Girls, Riverdale.
My local store traditionally only allows you to get six books for FCBD. I suppose I could go into Manhattan and hit a couple of stores there to get everything, but I have a lot to do today and really don't have time to deal with that kind of subway trip right now.
Edit: So I went to my store and the six book limit stood tall. I got all my definites, from my maybes I grabbed Rick and Morty and Riverdale. Only had a chance to read Doctor Who so far. Its ok, nothing spectacular, but what you'd expect from a free preview comic. I hate it when they use EU companions though.

The shop here in town had a 3 book limit. I got the Tick, the TMNT one, and Secret Empire.
While there I picked up Ben Reilly:Scarlet Spider #1. Haven't read Spider-man in years, but with it being Peter David/Mark Bagley team, I thought why not.
Also got a TPB Tarzan/Predator. Creative team is Lee Weeks/Walt Simonson. With that and the premise and a twelve buck price tag I thought why not?

Went to my library & scored two copies of The Loud House comic.
I wanted it especially because it was the comic available at last year's San Diego Conic-Con.

I went in a couple of local comic shops today and picked up a few of the free comics. I also bought a few new-ish comics. Civil War and New 52 killed off my interest in new comics, but I have to admit that going into the shops today made me want to start giving some newer comics a shot again.
One of the shops had a strict one per person limit. They also required you to buy something, which was really shitty. I was an idiot and gave in, but I probably shouldn't have. The other pretty shop much let us get whatever we wanted. Between my wife and I, we ended up with The Tick, TMNT, Star Trek: TNG, Dragon Ball Super, Zelda, Rick & Morty, and I think she also picked up the Fresh off the Boat and Buffy comics.

I couldn't get to my local shop until after work so most of the free comics were picked over so the ones I ended up with were the Wonder Woman, Disney Descendants, and DC SuperHero Girls ones.
Bought 4 trades to go with the free comics; volume 1 of Radioactive Spider-Gwen, Moon Knight "Lunatic", volume 1 of Ringside(which is honestly a series I never heard of but it is a wrestling crime drama comic), and Cage!, a Luke Cage story by Genndy Tartakovsky of Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack fame.
Also won a pretty badass framed limited edition print of Superman and Doomsday fighting at a raffle the shop held at midnight.

We don't have a comic shop within 50-75 miles of us, so our local library participated (I'm not sure if it's common practice, I've always gone to my LCS before.) It's not the first year for me and my son, but this one will be special because it's the first time my daughter went and was excited because they had a bunch of "girl comics" according to her.

It just jumped from a skipper to a must try.

Our store gave 5 of the free comics per person. We didn't get there til mid-afternoon do most of the freebies were gone. The store had a tsble outside with cases of comics they were selling for fifty cents apiece. They were letting people have the cheap comics in place of the freebies. So we got 25 comics before we even walked in the store. Everything in the store was 20% off, so we got another dozen or so in there. At the register, we got a coupon for another five free outside. We ended up with a stack of more than forty comics.

I didn't take advantage of the free comics part of free comic book day. But my local shop had a twenty percent off sale on new and used graphic novels and bought Batman Volume Ten and TMNT: Casey and April (basically a side adventure where the two go on a road trip). On a somewhat related note, anyone here read any of the post-Scott Snyder Batman stuff?
