I ask this question based on the outcomes of most of their games this season. The only blowout they have suffered was against the mighty Bears 34 - 7. The other losses have all been between 3 and 10 points and were all pretty competitive games.
Lions 6 - Seahawks 9 Lions 7 - Bears 34 Lions 24 - Packers 31 Lions 34 - Rams 41 Lions 17 - Vikings 26 Lions 20 - Bills 17 Lions 24 - Jets 31
Look at how competitive all those games are, with the exception of Chicago of course. So I leave this to the board, are the Lions the best 1 - 6 team ever? By the way I am a Lions fan and this is my way of salvaging yet another dismal season.

I dont care how you look at it, the Lions suck. Detroit has 3 amazing teams, 4 if you want to count the WNBA Detroit Shock, but the Lions have a long way to go.

The Lions offense does well. I have Kitna as one of my fantasy qbs and he is putting up big numbers in the passing game. He gets alot of fantasy points. The defense however is pretty shaky and inconsistent. Are the Cards and Dolphins 1-6 also? Then yeah i would say the Lions are better than them but 1-6 is an embarrasment no matter how you put it. I can see Detroit getting a few more wins this year but they have a looong way to go however before they can actually be a legitmate good team.

I heard over there football fans cheer for another NFL team or just watch the Michigan Wolverines. When was the last time that the Lions were actually good?

well there was the 12 - 4 season in 1991, and the 10 - 6 season in 1993.

Actually, in 1999 the Lions made the playoffs in the first season post-Barry. The following year, the Lions were actually one game better overall, but missed out on the playoffs due to an amazing comeback by Chicago (capped off with a walkoff field goal by former MSU Spartan Paul Edinger) on the final week of the regular season. That was the last time the Lions were even close to having a winning record.
Fun Fact: The offseason after the 9-7 2000 season, the Fords hired Matt Millen.

If I know Detroit fans like I think they do, I'm sure this is all the fault of Wayne Fontes. Hey motor city, was the guy so bad as you look back on it?
No such thing as best 1-6 team. They all have some things in common, primarily finding ways to lose.

The Lions are like a Midcard Jobber ( Jim Brunzell, Virgill) They show some offensive give the hint of a Win, but always look up at the lights
They did get a win over another Midcard Jobber (Bills)
They Perform Better than a regular Jobber, but Key Word is
Lions = JOBBER
With the Pistons Red Wings and Now even the Tigers having Sucess. The Mediocre Lions are SUCH a DISAPPOINTMENT

Fun Fact: The offseason after the 9-7 2000 season, the Fords hired Matt Millen. False advertising, there is nothing fun about that fact at all. Even as a Jets fan I find the Lions' story depressing. Millen is the worst hire for team executive in the history football.
