Sites that do this (and it seems to be more and more of them) annoy me. You click on an article that looks interesting, and immediately it fires up a video of a dude or lady reading the very same thing that's printed below them. My faculties haven't dwindled to such a degree that I can't digest a few paragraphs without you having to spoon feed em to me like strained peas. Lemme just read the thing in peace. If you must have an unnecessary video with an actor just saying the very same words I can read in half the time on my own, at leat gimme the option of clickin play or not. Otherwise, I'm just gonna click pause anyway.
It's a small thing, but something I find irksome.
It vexes me FAN. I prefer not to be vexed. I'm happier un-vexed.

Agreed. And more often than not, the video feed autoplays other videos, so you can't just wait for the damn thing to shut up.

It's like a race to pause igns videos before they go into that terrible video player.

I try to pause them quickly before they can load but other times I just say the hell with it and close the window without reading the article. A lot of sites now won't even let you scroll away from a video. if you try it pops up in the upper right hand corner.

I hate it, too. Especially if the volume is louder than expected. It can be startling.

It's a great way to ensure I never bother watching a video when my first instinct is "turn this shit off."

Even more annoying for me are autopsy ads. Clicking on website and hear some douche talking about car insurance in a tiny hard to find video. Urgh.

First thing I usually do when I see a video link in an article is right-click on the Tab and "Mute Tab", so if it or anything else starts I just don't hear it.
I have had problems where a video trying to load will freeze the page, though. Rare but happens.

This and ads that ask you to rotate your phone make me irrationally angry.

I hate that shit when viewing the Huffington Post. Always have to mute the videos.
Is there a way to disable that shit?

Every story on people.com have two videos per article. One that's about the story, and near the bottom they put a video that's related to the story. I just visit that whole site with my volume on mute

Hate these with a passion, considering how outrageously expensive internet is in my country, and the government has legally defined the minimum guaranteed speed that ISP's can legally advertise as broadband is 256Kbps...

Sometimes I'll be trying to read some breaking news article and it will auto play a video. So I'll close it and start scrolling down and the same video would pop back up but this time right in the middle of the screen and make me close it a second time.

I really HATE when I click on a link and a pesky article interrupts all the ads that I truly want to see.

Ever been to the Whatculture website? It's full of that shit, and there is an ad for their premium membership that says will get rid of the ads.
OK you need to pay the bills and keep the lights (and support your independent wrestling fed).. but don't make your website a noisy f***ing mess with these ads.
Cracked has been like that lately.
This is why people use Adblock.
