Man, Disney have so many of these umm Oddball movies from their past.
They should let MST3K let them use these for future experiments.

That's largely because Disney, which wasn't doing so hot at the time and were pretty much at the lowest they've ever been as a company and as a pop culture institution, was throwing every penny they still had into the Black Hole, which was shot around the same time and was at the time the most expensive Diz production ever.

Heck, even then they'd shed a lot of their movie rep (ESPECIALLY animation) and were seen primarily as a parks/entertainment venue company. Late '70s/ early '80s were a fascinating time in Disney history. And not really in many (if any) good ways.

Post Jungle Book, pre Little Mermaid had a lot of mixed successes but as mentioned, it made for a creative wilderness period.
