I'm an able bodied person in his prime. If I'm not carrying things if you have to wait to hold the door for me you're doing it for no reason. Hell if its a ridiculously long time I just walk slower after I tell them not to.

I know if someone is right behind me or going together at the same basic time I get it. But If I'm more then a second away I feel its weird to have a stranger wait for me.

I do it all the time. There is a time/wait discrepancy and if it's too long, I won't to avoid that person feeling awkward. But if it's the right spacing, I always, always do it. Man, woman or child.

Something I try to always do is hold the door open if I see someone coming in right behind me. Just proper etiquette more than anything.

What inconsiderate twats these people are, holding doors open for people as an act of politeness.

Maybe this just says something about my psyche that I don't like people going out of their way to do nice things for me.

Again its more when they hold it while I'm a few seconds away from the door. It saves me no effort and it just wastes your precious time.

I don't really see the issue here. Maybe it's because I do it for people all the time but to me it just seems like a small little courtesy, not something demeaning.

People who don't acknowledge me holding a door open for them is my berserk button. I am incapable of keeping my mouth shut when it happens.

I just like being nice. I hold the door open for anyone. The world can be a nasty place sometimes, and even if you are able to get the door yourself, it's a nice gesture.

Well then you'd hate my brother, because he'll hold it open for like the 4-5 people behind him.

Yeah, I was always taught to hold the door open for others if they're coming in too. Kid, adult, elderly, doesn't matter.
