After rewatching the documentary on this company, I came to realize that with a few exceptions (most notably Superman 4), I liked most of the films that this studio cranked out. Sure, a lot of what they made is ridiculous schlock, but it was still entertaining. I enjoyed Missing in Action, Delta Force, Over The Top, Masters of the Universe, Invaders from Mars (1986 remake), American Ninja 1-3, and Bloodsport. I kind of consider them a lower-budget version of Carolco (of course, both companies ended up flaming out).

Agreed, they had such a deft touch starting out for knowing what people wanted in movies and delivering it. They were a great combo, too, the dreamer and the bean counter. Loving movies like they did helped out too. BRB, gonna go watch the docu again.

Funny that they managed to get some big names to appear in their films.. but the one they wanted but could not get was an organutan named Manis

Cannon was to the '80s & '90s what American International was to the '60s & '70s, and Monogram/Allied Artists was to the '40s & '50s - the premiere source of cheesy, low-budget, so-bad-it's-awesome schlock.

Am I the only one who thinks that they simply made shit & that people view them through rose-colored glasses?

My favorite is one of their last: American Cyborg. It's weirdly similar, but in no way related to or inspired by, Children of Men. The only real difference is the setting (post apocalyptic America)... And the fetus in the backpack that the protagonist carries the entire time. And I could be wrong, but I don't remember Clive Owen running from a Borg wannabe who high steps like a marching band.

For many many years I have said that a movie doesn't have to be good to be fun, and Cannon made a bunch of fun movies.

Am I the only one who thinks that they simply made shit & that people view them through rose-colored glasses? Of course they made shit, but people look at it through rose colored glasses because it reminds them of a time before everybody became too cool to enjoy stuff like this on a pure level, and not "ironically."

Am I the only one who thinks that they simply made shit & that people view them through rose-colored glasses? Hardly I mean I do like some of their films such as the first two American Ninja films,Death Wish 3, Invasion USA and Bloodsport etc but I'm not going to overlook that the vast majority of movies they made were total garbage.

I can't ever hate on them just for gifting us with the "Sequel nobody asked for 2: Electric Boogaloo" meme.
plus yeah a lot of their stuff was schlocky but there was some legitimately great B movies in there.

Good God...
I'm watching the documentary for the first time and I remember a few of the movies, most noteably, The American Ninja series, Delta Force, Death Wish II, Last American Virgin, Lifeforce and so on.
I can laugh about some of these movies, since I grew up on a few of them. But watching this, I see a little titilation went a VERY long way. I'm at the point where I'm just numb now, going "We get it, can we move on now?" That and there is no way any of these movies would get released today, not without an R and that would cripple the audience.
Funny how you can laugh and cry at the same time over past memories.

At my job, there was a silent auction going on and I bid on a DVD 4-pack of Charles Bronson movies. I ended up filling in the last bid when I saw that someone tried to outbid me and I ended up getting the set. I saw that they were all films that were released from Cannon/Golan-Globus. I think I might check them out soon.

Anyway, here are the movies: - Murphy's Law
- Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects
- 10 to Midnight
- Messenger of Death

I might be grabbing a few myself. Lifeforce is a guilty pleasure and I'm pretty sure the American Ninja movies are getting a package release this summer. Already got Superman IV.
