In terms of the superhero genre, I enjoyed it more than most of DC & Marvel's offerings. The pacing was wonky, very wonky - no doubt. But I totally agree it was more fun than people give it credit for. It had better character arcs than most other superhero movies combined and all the performances were really charismatic/well-crafted. I think it suffered most from not being enough like a superhero movie as we know it. People want origin stories and melodrama and cartoon-like action sequences. I'd barely even put Suicide Squad in the superhero genre - it felt more like a war/'nam - type movie to me, which is why I can actually probably stand to watch it multiple times unlike most films in the superhero genre. I thought it suffered greatly from doing the typical destructive-laser-shooting-in-the-sky-hundreds-of-indistinguishable-enemies thing that pops up way too often in these films. If anything it should have been more different. I think you and me and the director agree on that. They definitely should have gone more grounded with the villain. I did like the fact that the Enchantress had at least a more character-driven reason for doing that gimmick (as opposed to just - because SPACE INVASION!!! haha), but I still wish they would have gone a different way with it. Other than that, I liked it a film in that genre that stood closer to movies like Tombstone or Heat in terms of really solid stand-alone ensemble pieces.

I thought Suicide Squad was a decent popcorn movie with some fun performances and visuals, but I didn't love it. It didn't grab me emotionally or took me for a ride the way a lot of the really great Marvel films have.
It's admirable how it tried to be something different- early on. IMO, the second half and the climax felt too generic.
But it at least tried to be a FUN DC comics movie, as opposed to how broody and Dark Knight Returns-affected much of the DCCU is.

IMO, the second half and the climax felt too generic. See I have the exact same reaction to most of Marvel's films. They often come across too melodramatic that it robs me of going on the emotional ride with them. The cloying nature of the storytelling leaves me feeling really hollow after watching it (I have the same reaction to Disney films - so that probably gives you some context haha!). The action/adventure portions are always fine but the characters/stories just do nothing for me. Most of them end up falling into the same category as BayFormers or the F&F franchise type films. Big, elaborate CGI reels but not much else. That's why the first GotG was really refreshing because it didn't veer to hard into that kind of territory.

Movie is watchable if you just accept that the plot doesn't make a lick of sense. Good performances anyway.
As for this, sketch review, no thanks. Also gotta wonder what else is left to say.
I acknowledge that lots of viewers obviously like the sketch reviews, but I ain't among them.

I'm liking it. There's some great gags in here. I straight-up guffawed at the zipping-out-of-frame "I'm Batman..." he did early on. There were some other cute moments but that one just punched me right.

I feel alone in actually enjoying Suicide Squad. I thought it was just a lot of fun. Fun action scenes, fun dialogue, fun characters, good soundtrack. I liked it. I disliked it but I thought it was relatively inoffensive and didn't really drag, making it the best of these DC movies so far.

I liked the review. Suicide Squad is just okay with me. Like I'm not seeking a rewatch and there are good parts and plenty of bad missed opportunities. Suicide Squad is kind of an example on how of a bar has been set for a super hero film these days. 10 years ago the movie would of been more well received.

Yeah count me in as someone who enjoyed the movie. Like it's no where near my favorite movies but it was a decent popcorn flick. Kind like Fast and the Furious films really, just shut my brain off and enjoy the absurdity of it. Really liked Diablo, Harley, and Deadshot a lot in it as well as Waller.
As far as the review goes, meh. I don't mind his regular reviews nowadays. I think he's toned down on the long sketches in those. These kind of reviews are just annoying to me though.

I feel alone in actually enjoying Suicide Squad. I thought it was just a lot of fun. Fun action scenes, fun dialogue, fun characters, good soundtrack. I liked it. I didn't love it, but I certainly liked it more than I disliked it. It wasn't nearly as bad as what I was prepared for based on what I had read.

So, in a bout of insomnia I broke down and watched the review. It's ok for a sketch review. Where did all these extra people come from? Besides Doug's normal team the only ones I recognized were Jim and Orlando. And Tamara looked insanely hot as Katana.
I forgot about the Rick Flagg-June Moone happy ending. You know, I'm all for a good happy ending, but man, if there was ever a movie that a "love conquers all" ending just doesn't fit its this one. Flagg didn't even really do anything in the movie to earn it either.
Back to my "the first 40 minutes of the movie were pointless" comment I made in my last post. I think the problem is in a movie like this with an ensemble like this, characters backstories, motivations and personalities really need to be learned through their words and actions over the course of the movie. That's how you get interested in them, you learn about them as they go. Instead we got all that through a 40 minute info dump at the start. Not even a particularly good info dump considering how poorly paced and edited it was. And most of it was retreaded in the movie anyways.
It didn't feel like the movie started until they were all brought together at the military camp to change their clothes. Everything before that just felt like an assortment of music videos and a DVD extra that Viola Davis shot on her day off.
