And I'm not talking about something like HBO or Showtime or the like. Just in general, a channel like ABC or USA or anything like that.
Back before the age of video streaming, I could see that being the case more often than not. Rentals were a crap shoot if they had the movie that you wanted, and only relatively recently have prices gone down enough in buying movies that it's reasonable to get it.
But now? With things like Netflix, Hulu (yes, they do have some movies there), Redbox (still a rental thing but the prices are reasonable) and even being able to buy movies off YouTube...does anyone really bother trying to catch a movie on TV with commercials? I mean, not only do you have to deal with the commercials involved, but there's a good chance that parts of the movie will be edited out, whether for time or censored to be TV friendly.
Yes, movies on TV channels were the reason I finally saw Terminator 2 and Robocop back about 20 years ago, but now it seems a bit...superfluous.
Am I in the minority thinking that way?

I watched Monsters University on ABC last week. Wanted to see it anyway, and it's not available anywhere online. I just surf the net or read during the commercials.

Movie based channels, even ones with commericals(IFC AMC), yes. USA-ABC-Fox level, no.

Yeah. Certain films come on TV and even though I've seen them several times and own the DVD/Blu (even both) I'll still sit there and watch it. Especially if it's on the BBC and that means no ads.

No. The editing they make can be ridiculous.
And I don't care much for movies anyway.

Sometimes, if I'm just looking for something to have on for noise and I happen to find something on. Like I rewatched Guardians of the Galaxy a couple weeks ago because FX happened to have it on.

Hey, I still proudly watch Scarface on basic cable, and you don't like it, why don't you try sticking your head up your toilet?

Background noise sure... movies I've seen 100 times, which is pretty much the same way I watch Netflix.

Not setting out to do so. If I'm channel surfing and a rewatchable movie like Back to the Future, Star Wars, Toy Story etc is on I'll watch it.

Do regular channels even play movies anymore? When I was a kid, there used to be major movies on regular cable TV channels every weekend. The first time I saw any Indiana Jones or Star Wars films were on regular TV, and a lot of the time, these movies were uncensored. Halloween was always the best time to catch movies on TV.
By the time I was a teenager, regular TV practically became a wasteland. Other than TBS, most regular TV channels very seldom showed movies. Usually the only time you could expect to see one on regular TV was in November and December, when the channels play the same Christmas movies you've already seen a million times before.
The last movie I can remember seeing on regular TV was Platoon, which I saw in November 2013. The film was censored, but still incredible to watch for the first time.

I know they'll be edited to hell, but I enjoy seeing what horror flicks are on the major cable channels around Halloween time.
And I should probably turn in my FAN card for this but ... I love watching those Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Please don't judge me!

The BBC rarely shows films now, it seems - unless it's a bank holiday/Easter/Christmas. The Christmas Day film used to be a treat, but it's lost impact with streaming and/or DVDs coming out soon after the cinema release. As a result, I'm unlikely to watch a film on TV as I know I can see it online in my own time. As for ITV, they recycle all of the same films over and over...they're currently showing the Bond franchise. Again.

Lol, I like some of them, but I usually watch reruns of Home Improvement with my dad, The Middle with my mom, and Golden Girls, with both parents Dad doesn't watch the movies

I do when there's nothing else on TV and I'm too lazy to pop in a DVD or go into the living room to watch something on the Blu-Ray player.
Like when TNT/TBS marathons the Star Wars movies. That's a great way to spend a lazy Sunday.

I attempted to watch A Christmas Story for the first time on a channel. Didn't make it past the first commercial.
