After the passing of my grandmother a couple months ago, my mind is made up to relocate out of New Jersey, as helping my mom to look after her was really my last main reason for staying. I have arranged a vacation week in July, during which I will crash with my brother and sister in law in Charlotte, NC, and I intend to go on a bonanza of applying and interviewing all over the place to try to land a job so I can relocate. I'm looking forward to it, but undeniably also a bit anxious and scared as I have never lived outside NJ and I have no doubt I will experience home sickness and adjustment blues. But the potential expenses and hassles that go with relocating from one state to another are also intimidating, so I am looking for any tips I can get for how to cut costs and save myself any unnecessary trouble. Any advice?

Sounds like you're doing it right. Get yourself acquainted with your surroundings. There's an odd depression that can happen almost out of then blue on occasion where on a random day you just kind of want to do something or go to a place you remember from your hometown that's not there.
It can be tough, but be voting good luck

You'll want to look up anything involving residency and such. Drivers license and license plate can be a big one.

definitely research the cost of living, for instance in San Francisco someone making good money may be able to afford a nice one room cardboard box. Maybe.

If it all possible have about 6 months saved for expenses in the event you have difficulty getting a job. My cousin moved out of state and barely lasted 6 months before coming back forced to live with her dad again.

Stay away from Alaska and Hawaii, the freak states.

It helps if you can get a good roommate situation going. That way you're rooming with someone who already knows the lay of the land and your expenses for living are split.

Look up how much rent is around where you're looking and calculate how much your paychecks would be with taxes and stuff. Sounds like you're doing all the right stuff.
When I packed up and moved to a new state it was actually to go to Charlotte NC so it's funny you're going there! It's an awesome place and I loved it there a lot.
