As someone who has researched the case extensively, they did an amazing job with this film. Rebecca Hall put in an Oscar-worthy performance, and they captured the ignorant and uneducated attitudes about mental illness in the 1970s perfectly. Some details were changed around for dramatic effect, as you'd expect with a movie like this, but at the heart of it, they stayed true to her story. I can't recommend it enough.

Rebecca Hall was incredible in this. Subtly heartbreaking in expressing Christine's desire for friends and loved ones; deeply uncomfortable in how her behavior drives people away. Not to mention very effective direction and a solid script that really does examine the blood and guts news culture starting to grow at that point. Its a testament to its quality that even knowing what happened to her and the climax still hits like a ton of bricks emotionally.
For a film that could have easily been exploitative and voyeuristic in the subject matter, it instead really demonstrates why Chubbuck had a life worth looking at beyond just those infamous 60 seconds in 1974.

Jeez, the ONE thing I'd expect the TS to be knowledgeable about would be the year.

I saw it last October. Left the theater unimpressed, but tense. I knew the Chubbuck story, but felt tense as the plot progressed. Last fifteen minutes are perfectly shot. Rebecca Hall is great, the rest of the cast, ehhh.
