Today is the 40th birthday for Star Wars. Happy Birthday Star Wars, and to every single person who worked on it, thank you. Thank you so much.

I was going through twitter earlier reading some stuff people were posting for the 40th anniversary. A lot of people had the same thought as me. Many of us still want the original version of the film on Blu Ray. The special editions and updated releases since are enjoyable but sometimes there is some wonky CGI that just takes me right out of it for a moment. Disney would make a fortune if they released the entire trilogy in its original form on Blu Ray. Make the covers the original movie posters and fans will come running. This anniversary would have been the perfect time to do it. I have no idea what they're waiting for. It has to happen eventually and when it does Disney will be in shock over how much money it brings in.

Let me use this thread to suggest any fans of the franchise get a copy of the Secret History of Star Wars book. Its a very thorough and well researched piece of reading which really delves into the interesting development of the series, including various interviews/memos, demonstrates the writing decisions of the franchise. While it does to some degree expose Lucas as a bit of a fibber in regards to his claims, after reading I far better understood his choices and actually empathized with the position he was put in as the central figure in Star Wars.

Star Wars was the first movie I fell in love with as a kid. My dad had a VHS of Episode 4 and watched it with me and my uncle. The world, the inhabitants, and the characters. While 90s kids had the Power Rangers, I had Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker.
On that note, Here's an original audience response to the ending of Star Wars in 1977:

Aside from Empire, I find Star Wars "meh"
But kudos to it's legacy
