I think we have the same Tuesday deal out here at some places, but it's $5. That $6 matinee is a good deal though. I'd definitely be hitting that up. I hit that matinee for pretty much everything. Especially during the school year cause it's almost always dead Same here! The theater near me has matinee shows for $5 on Monday, so that's when I try to catch a flick. Cheap tickets and having the auditorium pretty much to myself? Yes please. And it's one of those modern theaters with stadium seating. As for the topic, I don't see myself doing this. That much for a box that JUST streams movies? Nah. Considering how quickly new movies are available on iTunes now, I'm fine with waiting a month or two and then renting it for about six bucks. I did that last night with Get Out. I also still like going to the theater; there's just something about stepping into that big room and waiting for the lights to go down. And while I could do without the pre-show ads, I absolutely love watching the coming attractions. Especially when they're for a genre similar to the film I'm there to see--if I'm seeing a horror film, I expect to see trailers for similar movies.

Prince point is too high - but I like the idea. The theater experience will always be there for people who want to go out on a date or something but for people who just want to watch a new movie without the increasingly common annoyances of other people talking, texting, etc during the movie it's more ideal. I've had to ask so many people to not talk during a movie that it's become something I anticipate having to do and it kinda hinders my experience sometimes. I go to the movies alone all the time and I don't ever deal with people talking. Then again, it depends on where I sit. Personally, I prefer actually GOING TO theaters. Count yourself lucky. I've had very few experiences where people don't talk. I actually LOVE going to the movies too, it's just other people hamper what is otherwise a really fun experience. That's why I try to go on off-days/times to cut down on the chatter factor. Even then sometimes....when I saw the The Witch it was a pretty empty theater but there was a couple behind us that was just constantly talking back and forth about what was happening during the movie. Their volume wasn't egregious by any means, but the Witch is a VERY quiet movie so every little, "oh my god do you think the blah blah blah" carried down to the rows in front of them. I asked them to stop talking and to their credit they did, but the very fact that people have to be told to not talk at the theater is sad. I mean, is it that hard to shut up and watch the gigantic screen in front of you without talking throughout the movie?

I don't have a lot of time to go the theatre these days. Would not mind paying the odd premium to watch a current release at home. Depends on the film
But would not buy a unit just to do so. Already have enough stuff connected to my tv.

I think the idea is for families. 2 adults. 2-3 kids. Parking. Popcorn. Sodas. etc etc. $50 is probably a bargain for that audience. for just couples, not so much. True. If there was some sort of tiered system could work great Admittedly, don't know how they'd do that If the price were to lower by about $5 each week after its release, it might be the closest thing to a value (so if you wait a couple weeks to see it, it'd be $40, wait a month, $30, down to $10 after two months- and by the time it'd be around there, it'd probably be close to its regular streaming/DVD release and have a comparable price. It doesn't help couples as much, but it puts a similar move to how studios treat theaters and give them slowly more money as the movie is older.

Good idea, but why are they charging more than a regular cinema?
You're paying extra to watch it on a smaller screen, worse sound, quieter and less of an experienced.
I'll pass.

and involves a special $150 set-top box packed with anti-piracy technology. Technology that will be cracked or bypassed within days of launch, if not hours. I don't see it ever happening.

Same. 1/2 price with a showing of a dozen people? Yes please. I saw Civil War the Tuesday after it opened by myself it was amazing. I always go to movies the Monday after they are released at about noon. I'm usually the only one there or like one or two other people at most, and the ticket is cheap because it's a matinee.

I'm honestly wondering how this anti-pirating technology is going to stop someone from just pointing a camera at their TV.

The nearest theater to me only has matinees on the weekends. And even then it is still 8 bucks a ticket. Plus since there is nothing else for the kids and teens to do around here the theater is always packed with younger people that refuse to turn their cells off. For me even though it costs more I is better to goto the last showing of a film on Sunday nights. Normally the theater is almost empty. Which came in handy when a friend and I went to see The Wolverine. My friend never learned how to read. So I was having to read all the subtitles to him. But we were the only people in the theater.
If this service covered all films getting theatrical releases it might be decent for me. Lots of the time I have to drive up to Jackson or down to Diberville to see most films, because the theater in town doesn't get lots of stuff. Like how they never got Kick Ass 1 or 2. But played Soul Surfer for 3 months. And the newest Tyler Perry Madea film played for almost the same amount of time.

I pay £17 a month and I can see Normal & 3D movies anytime & as many times as I want (I have to pay Imax though, about £5) as well as 25% off food (I saw 6 movies in 1 day before).
My only issue is getting into town, Parking is a mother (Plus my bus service stinks)
