Apparently he's working on a series of shorts through his studio OATS? for Steam.
If this is why the Alien project he was working on fell apart - I'm glad. I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of him doing a franchise film tbh.
The prospect of him doing some experimental shorts has much more hyped than some kind of Alien flick where his hands will undoubtedly be shackled by the studios.

Blomkamp has earned the benefit of the doubt from me. I'm in. He offers something you don't get everywhere or anywhere else in his particular genre-bending approach. Hopefully, the studio shackles will be off of him.

Hopefully, the studio shackles will be off of him. I'm very interested to see how far they let him go. "experimental" is a pretty broad term but it looks like it's an anthology of some type revolving around an invading alien species. But yeah - hopefully Steam is giving him a long leash with these. District 9 was great. Elysium was visually cool, but the acting and story needed work big time (Damon was the wrong choice). Chappie gets a lot of shit but it's fun to watch. Blomkamp reminds me a lot of early Besson, kind of a call back to the days of Cinema du look.

Hopefully it's better than his other crap, besides "District 9"

One possibly overlooked thing of note is your comment about Chappie. It is by no means crap. It just isn't standard. There is some amazing filmmaking going on in that film. Meanwhile, people go on and rave about the status quo, words like "brillIant" and "loved it" tossed out to the guys and gals out there behind the camera playing it safe.

He knows how to push boundaries, no doubt. I think a lot of people were put off by Die Antward on that one and that really tainted how they saw it as well.. Though it didn't bother me. Also I think it was one of Jackman's more interesting performances. But I agree. A lot of people overly inflate the artistic merit of the cinematic equivalent of comfort food.
