I liked it a lot when I saw it, then after a few weeks of stewing on it, I hated it, now I'm just, "Meh, it's alright, I go back and forth between it and Sith being my fifth favorite Star Wars film behind the OT and Rogue One."

It was alright. I definitely didn't like it as much as any of the original trilogy. Nothing is as good as the original trilogy, although Rogue One comes close.

I saw both Force Awakens and Rogue One and thought that this might finally be time that I get off the SW train.
Not that they were bad, but I left and forgot I even saw them a week later, they left almost no impact on me.

Also, her Jedi mind trick worked on the stormtrooper because storm-troopers are weak willed and weak minded grunts whose only purpose is to shoot things and serve as cannon fodder. We're talking about "taking a 10" in terms of chances of success here, to use d20 terminology. Not only that, it took her two attempts and was shown to be a challenge for her. If anything it was reminiscent of Luke Force-grabbing his lightsabre inside the wampa cave in Empire - a simple, routine trick for a Jedi to pull off, but a difficult one for a Force-sensitive with zero training.

I don't get why people don't understand that Rey was fighting a severely injured and mentally tormented Kylo? He just took a direct hit from Chewie's bowcaster and kept fighting. That blew Stormtroopers off of their feet. Kylo kept fighting so of course Rey was able to take advantage of that. Plus he was struggling with what he just did. You know killing his father? You don't remember Han speaking to Rey and Finn about the Jedi? "Thought it was a bunch of mumbo-jumbo. A magical power holding together good and evil, the dark side and the light. Crazy thing is... it's true. The Force. The Jedi... All of it... It's all true." So Rey is an issue because she pulled off a Jedi mind trick on a first order trooper, but Luke blowing up the Death Star is what? I don't she even close to mastering the Force. She was able to tap into it, and as we have seen in past movies, that can be done with new Force users. You know Luke blowing up the Death Star. Anakin using force reflexes during the pod race. except Kilo Ren was kicking her ass until he said "...the Force". then she does a Matrix download and suddenly she remembers how to fight and suddenly he's injuries become a factor, so that suddenly makes it plausible within the context of that created universe for her to beat him? no, it was a badly written scene. throughout the entirety of the original Star Wars movie, Luke is able to accomplish a grand total two things using the force: blocking one shot from the training droid and blowing up the Death Star (after being told to do so by ghost Obi Wan). the rest of the time he's whining because he can't do this and he can't do that. Rey on the other hand is able to (suddenly) beat someone with much more experience with the Force and fighting with a lightsaber, do a Jedi mind trick, can shoot anything, fix anything, fly anything, speaking any language... Did you miss the part where he was almost bent over and punching himself when he was fighting Finn? Did you forget that they went back and forth until he started to push her back. Then she opened herself up to the Force. That's how that works. Rey was stranded on a desert world and had to take care of herself. It's not surprising that she can fix anything and that she can speak multiple languages. In a galaxy with multiple species and multiples languages, that's not too far of a stretch. Obi-Wan guided Luke, but Luke used the Force to destroy the Death Star. He was also flying in an X-Wing without any military training. An argument could be made that he used the Force to hit the button to close the blast doors on the Death Star after Obi-Wan was killed. Not to mention killing several of the Storm Troopers that had turned and started firing on him after he yelled out.

I disagree. I'd rank them like this
Empire Strikes Back A New Hope Rogue One The Force Awakens Return of the Jedi Revenge of the Sith The Phantom Menace Attack of the Clones

For me, this video basically ruined the movie. I can't watch TFA anymore without thinking about Rihanna.

Just don't get why they called it Episode seven, when it was clearly episode one of a new story. Because Marketing. Calling it Episode VII rather than just it's own title resulted in a bigger box office result. Just compare how it did at the box office versus how Rogue One did.

They replay it a lot on HBO, and the more times you watch it, the more shallow it becomes.
That being said? Still light years better than all the prequels. In every aspect. And if someone brings up "World-building", I'll go full Kyle Ren.

I did'nt think it was bad, but it was not "greatest movie ever made". I think having it the first Star Wars movie that didn't suck in 30 something years really made people cloud their judgment. Still worth seeing but it's not THAT great.

With the mind trick, I think we also need to realise the context. Luke grew up when the Jedi were wiped out as a movement, knowledge of them suppressed by the Empire. Rey and others like her have heard the stories about Luke, the Force, how the Empire is defeated. Presumably from some of that, she knows the Jedi Mind Trick exists as a thing.
So after she's had visions indicating a link to the Force, she's got enough mental fortitude to resist Kylo to some degree, why wouldn't she give it a shot against the one anonymous grunt between her and freedom? And with two attempts, she just about managed it! Even if she's untrained, she can scrape by. It's an indication of her potential in the Force, setting that fact up so that she can use it later on more effectively in taking the lightsaber.
But why put that amount of thought in when we can just call her a Mary Sue?

Kylo Ren is kind of a newbie himself, too. A proper Sith Lord or Jedi Master would probably kick his ass from here to Dantooine.

It's an indication of her potential in the Force, setting that fact up so that she can use it later on more effectively in taking the lightsaber. Until proven otherwise I subscribe to the theory that Rey was a former student at Luke's academy and that to protect her he used the Force to suppress her memories of her time training to be a Jedi and let her live an anonymous life free of the burdens of a Jedi, and that Ren's attempt to rip information from her mind began breaking down the barriers Luke had set in place. It is only after that scene that she starts using Jedi powers, so for me that's the most logical explanation.

Not that they were bad, but I left and forgot I even saw them a week later, they left almost no impact on me. Pretty much. Every Star Wars outside of Attack of the Clones left some kind of impact on me with something memorable from it (Battle sequence, music score, quote, memorable character to impersonate, etc.) These new Star Wars films just feels like reading good to okay Star Wars Fan Fiction or those Star Wars Universe books. Like outside of the fact is Star Wars I don't really want to rewatch the new films. Like if The Last Jedi doesn't deliever it'll probably be the last Star Wars film I'll seek seeing in theaters.

While it wasn't as good the second time (Still liked it though) I'd rather watch "Awakens" than "Rogue One"
I f***ing HATED "Rogue one" (Vader Scene aside)

You woulda thought there would've already been a thread exactly like this one. Kinda hard to be believe, isn't it? Oh wait... officialfan.proboards.com/thread/551993/main-problems-star-force-awakens?page=5...with OP already weighing in with copy-and-paste-like efficiency.
