My gym has both. I never used any of them. Not for any insecure reasons I just keep forgetting my gym has them. Which is better? Why? What is proper etiquette? What do I bring? How long can I stay before I'm on the brinks of death? No it's not unisex room because it's in the mens room.

Do you throw water in your gym's sauna? cause in typical finnish sauna, you can throw water into the stove to make it bring out more hot steam. And the etiquette depends highly on the gym rules. In Finland, we don't wear towels in the sauna, but instead sit on a smaller towel to keep the seats clean. but I believe in states you wear a towel. You need to know your limits when in sauna! do not stay there if you feel it's too hot! A good example of this is the annual Sauna competition in here. few years ago a russian man died due to staying in too hot sauna for too long, and the finnish guy competing against him suffered enormous burns. SO! I recommend sauna! but know your limits, stay hydrated and don't stay there too long! It's a tradition here, so i'am biased.

Throw water on our steam room and we kick you the f*** out.
There's sensors in there you'll ruin. They aren't cheap.

In here, if you didn't throw water on the stove in sauna, you'd be sitting in a cold room in no time. Unless one is using one of those silly infrared saunas.

It's a generator below that blows steam when the thermostat says it's below temperature.

If you ever get a chance to go to a Finnish sauna, try it out. it's a weekly tradition here. Although many media outlets only show off the outdoor saunas next to a lake or something. where i live, we have the sauna downstairs, and no lake nor beach close.

Just dont sit with your naked ass on the sauna bench, just put a towel under it. Thats pretty much it.

I'm in charge of a wet and a dry sauna. Never been in either for fun. I'll pass. Though it did lead to a fun conversation when the steam room was on the fritz. "There's tons of steam, but it's cold" "Ok" Talked to the electrician "We have tons of steam but it's cold" "The f***?" "I'm just passing on what a customer told me" Then again that electrician grabbed the pipe labeled "steam" and yelled when he got burnt. I said "What did you think was going to happen?"
