For Returns I have always said someone should have reeled Burton in

"Returns" does get a bit too Burtonesque at times but I still enjoy it

'89 is my favorite as well. It hits just the right tone between the old Batman serials and a big Summer blockbuster.
I don't know what crack Burton was smoking when he did Returns. Like, you're making a movie based on a billion dollar franchise, and you make it so weird it's not accessible to a very large audience.

Wow, can you imagine if there was an internet back when Micheal Keaton was announced as Batman? It would have killed the project before it started even though he probably was the best actor to play Batman.

The laughing after joker's death always creeped me out as a kid.
Still a awesome movie

I do like Batman 89.But it isn't my favorite Batman film. I would have the Adam West Batman movie and TDK a bit above it. Still need to see all of Returns. That was one where close to a year before it came out the Sam Hamm script leaked. SomeGuy was selling xeroxed copies at a con for 20 bucks. I grabbed one and read it.It was amazing and nothing from that script got kept in Batman Returns. So for years I have kind of avoided that film.

It's my second favorite Batmovie after Dark Knight.
FWIW- Phantasm, Lego Batman and Returns would round out my Bat-top five.

I still think Nicholson is the best live action joker, He got the Comedy/Sadism balance just right.
And this scene will never not be awesome

It was OK, but you can see where Burton was starting to get ideas of 'let's focus on all these people except Batman' that would really kick in badly for Returns.

Joker? Awesome and fun performance!
Batman? Still my favorite portrayal of the character by far. Just amazing!
True favorite character of the film? Bob the goon! I just can't get enough of this guy! I really wish they'd introduce a permanent version of him in the comics. He just looked bad ass!

My least favourite Joker. Good performance, some great lines, but it's not the Joker to me.
Solid Batman, okay Bruce, but Burton's total disinterest in the character hurt the movie.
But it's still a fun watch all these years later. And I second the call for some Bob the Goon love.

The first movie I can remember watching as a young kid. Always been a huge Batman fan and I absolutely love Keaton's Batman. He nails the character and his Batman voice was perfect. Jack's Joker was great and although Heath Ledger's Joker was better, I still fondly remember his character. Kim Basinger was an absolute babe in this movie and Robert Wuhl's character was really fun. The ending scene with the signal and Alfred picking up Vicki and saying Bruce would be late was great. Also, this movie is what introduced me to Prince so I thank Batman for that lol.

The Burton movies are the best Batman movie by miles. Michael Keaton is by far the best ever Batman, and Jack Nicholson is just pure brilliant in this movie. It's a myth that this movie sidelines Batman in favour of the Joker. It doesn't. Joker stands out because he's the Joker, but the story is about Batman and I loved the idea of Batman and the Joker unintentionally creating each other.

I went through a period where I preferred the first 2 Nolan movies to any of the previous incarnations.
But in very recent years, I've come back to the 2 Burton movies. I enjoy them both, obviously '89 was better.
I never got the complaints about Nicholson. As already mentioned, he was the perfect balance for the tone of the movie. It was an excellent casting.
Then again, while I like Ledger's Joker...I don't exactly consider it the all or nothing performance for anyone portraying Joker. The character has evolved since it's creation, so I've never been too bought into "dark brooding sadist with a twisted sense of humor" Joker.

Absolutely love the Burton movies. Probably my favorite Batman movies at the end of the day and, as good as Ledger is, I still think Nicholson is better in the role than him.
Also both movies, the 89 one in particular, might be the most quotable films of all time. Just about every line in either movie can be quoted out of context and have people get it.
