First Connery Bond picture I ever saw. I love it. Donald Pleasance is an awesome Blofeld.

Its a great Bond film, but its a shame how they botched the Blofeld series.

Its a great Bond film, but its a shame how they botched the Blofeld series. God I had such hope for Blofeld in Spectre, then they decided to rip off Austin Powers: Goldmember of all the goddamn things to rip off.

God I had such hope for Blofeld in Spectre, then they decided to rip off Austin Powers: Goldmember of all the goddamn things to rip off. Its almost a shame bc Waltz was great casting. The story just sucked. The slow build is what makes Blofeld great. In the original series up til DAF they had it right. He's heard, but not seen in FRWL. Established as a big bad that doesn't take shit from anyone and rules with an iron fist. Kinda like how Dr. No put Bond over. Further established in Thunderball. Uses Largo as his puppet on the project. Finally shown in YOLT, but a bit at the end. Returns in OHMSS (which I don't consider canon in the Connery series) Goes full blown camp in DAF. I don't hate DAF but it wasn't the right direction for the story being told. Here, he is introduced and defeated in the same movie and given some odd backstory of being Bond's adopted brother. It just made no sense, Ik they wanted to connect the first 3 films but they could have easily done that without the convoluted way they tried. The Broccoli's need to lose creative control on Bond ASAP. If anything, they should have kept him in the shadows and focused on Andrew Scott (who is more than capable of) as the villain.

You Only Live Twice is in the middle of the pack for my Bond rankings. not terrible like Die Another Day and Diamonds are Forever, but not one of the all time greats like GoldenEye and From Russia with Love. just slightly above average.
the theme song however is one of my favorites

It's probably my least favorite Connery Bond.

It's probably my least favorite Connery Bond. Worse than DAF? I actually like DAF. Wint and Kidd are some of my favorite Bond henchmen and I like the Las Vegas setting.

I actually like DAF. Wint and Kidd are some of my favorite Bond henchmen and I like the Las Vegas setting. Honestly I hold the same opinion on DAF. Its a fun film, but I always preferred YOLT. But they are two movies that are stuck in an era of Bond films where from 1962-1973 EON was white hot with their Bond films. Its a shame they've never been able to duplicate the greatness of the Connery area and that Bond has been stuck in mostly mediocrity the last 20 years whether it be meh films in TND and TWINE or awful films in DAD and QOS.

I grew up in the Brosnan era, but I'm a Moore fan with Dalton coming in second. If I'm ranking the Connery Bonds, DAF FRWL GF TB Dr. No YOLT That's just based on my enjoyment of the films though.

Nothin wrong with that. DAF was in my Top 10 for a long time. If you watch it as a sequel to YOLT, a laid back one, its a good film, along the Star Trek IV lines. It just unfortunately followed OHMSS.
