I was thinking about this after reading the Goldberg thread and someone mentioning Kevin Owens title reign.
Has anyone in recent history, aside from maybe Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar, come out on the other side of their title reign looking better? Or, not being down sized in some way?
I was trying to think and even guys like AJ Styles that have still had high profiles and big matches after the fact seemed like they somehow lost momentum they never quite picked back up fully after being made champion. Then you have guys like Owens and Ambrose that clearly are aimlessly wandering the upper card, and as characters feel less than they were prior to winning the big one. Rollins maybe? Though it elevated him into a main event spot, his character overall feels weaker now than it did prior to him winning the championship.

Rollins? Good grief he's the epitome of being buried with the belt. He was getting killed so bad on a weekly basis that I was relieved for him to be injured just so I didn't have to see him get buried 6 feet under every week on Raw. Everything that has happened with him since has served to kill him off even worse, from bringing him back insanely as a heel when everyone was cheering him, to then his whatever that was attempt at a face turn, to now finally just treading water with no real heat after the HHH feud.

This is a good question. I think you have to go quite a few years back to maybe Mark Henry or Christian?

Jinder Mahal probably will, but that's because he was right near the bottom at the beginning of this whole thing and will at least hover around the midcard for a year or two after he eventually drops the belt.

Are you talking just world titles or would the US and IC titles count? They've had a couple runs in recent years where people came out looking better.

I think Owens and AJ Styles definitely came out of their title reigns seeming like bigger deals.

as some folk have said, henry, Christian, probably jinder due to the whole mindset changing from. "this guy's no main eventer/nothing special" to "former <insert world title> holder <person>". maybe finn down the road though it seems atm he's in "spinning his wheels mode.
then of course there's charlotte/sasha who came out looking better by swapping the title with each other every match they had (HISTORY!). alexa would certainly fit- loses smackdown title to Naomi then promptly jumps to raw to become the first champ of both divisions of the new brand split era.
but i'm guessing you just mean on the men's side.

AJ is still pretty much a top guy. Beating Cena 3 times and winning the WWF/E title pretty much established him in a short amount of time.
Cream of the Crop rises to the top.

I have to disagree, AJ never lost momentum.
He can't fight for the WWE title forever and every feud he's had has meant something.
