Just came back from a summer camp for Adults, so I figured this would be a decent idea for a thread. Post any memorable summer camp stories, whether bad or good, here.

Walking back from the dining hall with a friend and saw what looked like a black hose on the side of the trail. Went to pick it up because I thought it was trash and should throw it away. Turned out to be a 3 foot long snake.

We don't really have summer camps down under. We have school camps which a couple of classes spend a week away somewhere educational.

Well my first school camp was in grade 4 (age 10) and we went to Fryestown a small town in the old Victorian gold mine areas near Castlemaine. And I learnt how aggressive the Australian Magpie can get protecting their nests.

Always looked forward to summer camp....except for the craft portion which always sucked.

But I do remember one time when we all went horseback riding witnessed a kid get kicked by a horse with its hindlegs right into his chest..needless to say never saw that kid ever again.

Summer Camp is something I wish was a thing in England. Seeing them on American movies they always looked awesome and I would have absolutely loved to have experienced it for myself.

Along with a lot of American things. Movies and TV shows make America look such a fun place for kids to grow up with loads of different things to do and look forward to. Science Fairs, drive-in-movies, running for class president, different after school clubs and activities, those cool diners you've got, yard sales, BBQ's run by a dad in sandals and a kiss the chef apron, school sporting events where everyone turns out to watch.

I'd love to attend summer camp. Sleeping in a cozy cabin with names like Cabin Wolf, Cabin Porcupine or Cabin Possum, getting woke up by a bugle, doing things like canoeing, archery, nature hikes, having the councillor telling ghost stories around the campfire whilst we roast marshmallows, stealing a boat to sail across the lake to the girl's camp on the other side of the water, discovering that everybody in the camp is actually a ghost wanting to possess me so I can leave.

Are american summer camps anything like in Charlie Brown cartoons or Friday the 13th movies?

It was at a Boy Scout camp in northern New York State. It had rained quite a bit but we were supposed to have our troop campfire that night. They had me build the fire because I was the best at it. When it was time to light it, I got my matches from my tent, lit one, and dropped in on the wood.

Someone had decided to "help" me by pouring a bunch of Coleman fuel over the logs. The scoutmaster said the fireball was 10 feet around and I was standing in the middle of it. Singed my hair and ruined (melted) the nylon windbreaker I was wearing.

Did a week at Camp Nobebosco as a Scout. That's where the first Friday the 13th was filmed. Scariest thing I saw was other kids taking a whiz in the lake.

I went to a summer camp, once. I don't remember much about it lol.

When i was 19, i worked at the ymca summer camp. I tried to be a fun counselor. Parents of kids in other groups, told me theeir kids thought I was fun!! One morning, a group of kids was playing, and one fell and landed awkwardly on his arm. He got up, and calmly told me he thought he broke it. Sure enough, the next day, i had to write up an accident report.

When I was 11, I went to something called Outdoor Camp. It was a day camp where everything was outdoors. One day, there was a really bad thunderstorm and we all had to take shelter under an airnasium as it was the only thing with a roof at the camp, though it lacked walls.

I hated outdoor camp.

I went to summer camp from 3rd grade until 8th grade and then was a counselor in 9th and 10th grade. It was a good time. Basketball, wiffle ball, and Strawberry Guzzlers. I wish I could go back...

...but I'd get a restraining order.

Since I grew up in a wooded rural area my parents never sent me to summer camp. There was one not far from my house that a local church ran. But by the time it opened I was 12 or 13.

So I went to this camp once as a kid, seemed normal enough until a bunch of the kids started getting murdered. Turns out the person who did it was this girl named Angela and she had a penis. It was awesome! I totally went back the next year.

I never went to traditional simmer camps. During middle school I spent two weeks of each summer at the local blind school learning life skills and other related stuff. We had to cook lunch and dinner for each other almost every night. My last year there, we went to see Cats and I was so tired that I fell asleep right in front of the orchestra pit and a hugegantic speaker.
