So I found this on Tubitv and decided to check it out. It was a little too long, but it was a pretty good film, loved the deliberately cheap "special effects" and obvious blue-screening. I wonder if Cooper or Mandi will ever show up in a AVGN review.

I'm glad he got to make it, given making a film seemed important to him, but I'd be lying if I said the end result appealed to me in a big way.

I enjoyed the movie. And have watched it recently on TubiTV. Feels like lots of people expected way too much from the film.

I enjoyed the movie. And have watched it recently on TubiTV. Feels like lots of people expected way too much from the film. I think people expected something close to a high-budget film, or for him to work some magic to make it look somewhat professional. And that's really never been him. Anytime I've seen his "behind the scenes" stuff, he seems to find pleasure and joy in making rudimentary methods work, and he even embraces the fact that sometimes it looks the best it can but still looks hokey or even second-rate. To make the film everyone expected of it (or at least most people) he would've had to abandon many of the things he enjoyed about making films and the methods he'd use. His philosophy would've had to undergo a huge transformation. He always talked like he felt this was his "one shot at an actual film". Can't fault the guy for saying "it's my way or the highway". As for the "review" part of it...I mean, what was left to say of E.T. before that film? In the bubble of just "the game", there's much worse games in the world, hell, there's much worse on the 2600 itself (I'd much rather play E.T. than that kick to the nuts that was Pac-Man on the 2600). But if you account how damaging it was to the industry and how much it screwed things up, its title as the "worst videogame of all time" is well deserved. But I can understand why that game HAD to be the AVGN movie, because for as much as people demanded it, I feel like it would've disappointed if it was just a normal review.

Having grown up with the Atari 2600 I know for a fact that ET is far from the worst game on that system. What is odd is back when it came out pretty much everyone got a copy. And once we read the manual we enjoyed it. It wasn't until I got online in 97 and was reading R.G.V.C. that I discovered that ET is considered "The Worst Game EVAR!".
I knew going in that the AVGN Movie would be low budget and have cheesy FX work. Hell that is what I wanted from it. I do wonder how many people that hated it actually paid for it and didn't just download it.

There were much worse 2600 games than E.T. (Squeeze Box anyone? How about Airlock?).

If so I loved that game when I was younger. Haven't played it since about 97 though. There was some Strawberry Shortcake game on the 2600 that was horrible.

I liked it. I also can't help but to cheer for underdogs following their dreams in making a full feature film. Like I wasn't expecting a masterpiece I was just hoping the film wouldn't suck. And it didn't suck so expectations were met.

To be honest I like Rolfe way more than the Nerd character. Even in AVGN vids I enjoy it more when he's more low key and letting the absurdity of the game be the main joke
So a full movie of the Nerd character never really interested me. Glad he was able to do it though.

Glad he was able to do it though. I prefer his more straightforward AVGN stuff. I can't stand the more cinematic ones where the reviews are excuses to do other things. The Bugs Bunny review immediately springs to mind.

Ironically enough I think making the movie burnt him out on being the Nerd. He just doesn't seem as into it when he does those videos anymore.

Still my favorite review by him. It's also my favorite review as well. But when it comes to moments, either him playing GTA4 on the Pong Consoles review or his reaction to the newer Godzilla games might be the top of everything he's done. And most of it is purely visual!

Rolfe is the master at the "horrified" facial expressions. His reaction when he plays Timewarp Tickers from Action 52 is among-st my favorites.
