I've worked at this place(security/night club) for over a year even before the new boss took over. He had asked me to keep a eye out on the room with most of the trouble. I work under a supervisor who does very little and avoids any form of contact and even hides behind others. The place is very quite normally with and maybe has one day out of 3 where it picks up a bit.
My supervisor is going away for one night and the main boss said he was wondering who he would had in charge. I mentioned it should be this one guy who runs around like a raging bull and throws people on the floor, everyone mocks him for how eager he is so naturally I knew he would like to do this and I mentioned the guy during the little meeting and he said he would up for it but the main boss said that he was thinking of me but he didn't think I wanted the responsibility.
I asked him how does he know that? but then told him how I wouldn't do it there as there ejection policys are too strict(plus the radios hardly work) I found it odd he said this as I'm one of the best guys and most experienced guys they have. I've noticed a few comments like this that seem ridiculous as 1) the venue is normally quiet 2) I'm the most experienced guy they have. He even joked about the supervisor who was going away was no loss because he does nothing but the difference is that is the truth. Now I know it's all politics which is why I don't need to takeover from him but his comment rubbed me up the wrong way. Should I just let it go?

Well, considering when he asked you who you thought would be good, obviously curious if you would say you, you said someone else... and then when he mentioned it actually being you, you said you didn't want the job.. Yea, you should let it go. Why be upset over a comment that is correct?
Now, if it is pissing you off because you know you are the best man for the job, you should man up and go tell him that. Sounds like the job is yours for the taking. But, don't be mad at your boss for keeping it real with you.

You are upset because your boss likes you and wants to promote you? Most people wish they had your troubles.

Having been a supervisor myself, pretty much everything you said to him indicates why he thinks you don't want/aren't right for the job.

This doesn't make sense. He wanted to put you in charge, but didn't because he didn't think you wanted the responsibility. Then you tell us that you really don't want the job, but are trying to convince us that you're the best worker they have.
So what exactly is the problem?
