Quentin Tarantino is prepping a new film that will focus on the infamous Manson murders, according to a new report.
Sources close to THR say that Tarantino will write and direct the historical film, and regular collaborators Harvey and Bob Weinstein are also involved.
THR reports that the project is currently being shopped to studios for co-financing, with the aim to start production in 2018. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence have reportedly been approached to be involved in the film.
The film will be most likely anchored by the 1969 murder spree conducted by four members of the Manson Family, a cult led by Charles Manson. The murders took place in the home of actress Sharon Tate, who was killed at eight months pregnant, alongside four others. Manson and other members of his 'family' were sentenced to life imprisonment in 1971.
The project will be noteworthy for Tarantino as his first film based on true events.
idk how to feel about this seeing as I have seen so many movies cover the same ground from helter skelter to some recent tv movie where Manson was played by a dead ringer lookalike of Seth freakin Rollins so idk what ground Tarantino plans to cover unless he embeleshishes and goes really over the top which would be my only hope for this.
It's well worn subject matter. But it could be interesting to see what QT would do with it. And the soundtrack alone would probably be worth the price of admission.
As long as he fictionalizes the heck out of it, it'll be good.
He's got the chops when it comes to talking things you think are well-worn and breathing something distinctive into them.
WWII movies, crime movies, movies about slavery, martial arts revenge movies - heck even the murder mystery. For all the flack he takes for basically sampling everything he can get his hands on, he does find a way to always make old stories seem fresh and new again.

I'm very down for this. Dude might finally get to make the definitive movie on that subject (as, nothing against the versions that have been made, but they've all lacked in some way, even if that way has just been not being able to get real with the subject matter, being that they were made for television).
It sounds interesting, but there's been a lot of movies Tarantino said he was going to make that he never did. I don't believe he's making something until it actually enters production.

I trust Tarantino making this more than I would someone like Rob Zombie that's for sure, Zombie would just cast his f***ing wife as Sharon Tate for one.

Was Sharon in the Halloween remake ?
His wife is Sheri, not Sharon. Easy mistake. But yeah, of course she was in them. And I think Rob would make her a follower instead of one of the victims.

Whoops. Well I did check and she was in the movie. She played Michael's mother and committed suicide.
