Charlotte Flair vs Sasha Banks vs Becky Lynch WrestleMania 32 one of the finest women's matches I've seen Tons of history made that night, and the match lives up to the hype. Sasha had a couple of bobbles (sunset flip corner spot, suicide dive turned into a roll at the last possible second) but the announcers covered that pretty well. Ric taking a spot only confirms some of the points made in the 30 for 30 (Ric loves his spotlight) And Charlotte's moonsault is gorgeous. And only the daughter of the "Dirtiest player in the game" can be the first Women's champion - RIP and good riddance to the Sailor Moon memorial prettyprettyPrincess My Little Pony Invitational Butterfly Belt! Wendi Richter vs Leilani Kai Wrestelmania 1 Going back to this right after watching a WM32 match, it amazes me how far Wrestlemania has come from a production standpoint. Cyndi Lauper at ringside is almost natural given the time and the old school graphics bringing back memories of Wide World of Sports and other weekend sporting events picture-in-picture during the match is a nice experiment, but can be confusing. This is a much more technical match than the triple threat and pretty solid. Moolah's antics post-match are pretty funny too.

Paul Orndorf, Hulk Hogan, Bam Bam Bigelow, Don Muraco and Ken Patera vs Andre the Giant, Butch Reed, Rick Rude, One Man Gang and King Kong Bundy Survivor Series 1987 mmm, Rick Rude and his roadsign tights.... "Stop" isn't on there for a reason Sir Gnomealot Oliver Humperdink is creepy AF. I know what's going on with Orndorf's arm, what's with the arm apparatus on Patera? Muraco is a beast. That is all. Once Hogan was out of there, seeing Bam Bam showcased warms my heart. Shame it was overshadowed by Hogan/Andre shenanigans right after the match.

Stunning Steve Austin vs Macho Man Randy Savage WCW Saturday Night May 27, 1995 I was only able to find a couple of minutes of this match on YT. I found Schiavone and Heenan distracting to what action was going on, though since this would have been shortly after Savage had signed on with WCW they seemed to enjoy rubbing the Slim Jim references in.

WCW Uncensored 1995 The Blacktop Bully vs Dustin Rhodes Ah, the "King of the Road" match. for some reason I thought DUSTY was in this and not the future Goldust. ok, so they rented a helicopter, a separate rig, shut down a road for filming recorded this likely the day before and probably had to pay an editor some overtime to put it all together.... for fans who paid $$$ to sit and "watch tv" in the arena. Thankfully this is the opener so hopefully the show went up from here. If the footage was finished before the show started, I think Tony and Brain should have taken a few minutes to think of better things to say during this "Match". I can fully understand why this bombed.

Starrcade 1994 Avalanche vs Sting *spots a young EVIL BOSS DILETTANTE DR LEVESQUE on the card* Brain: "You wanna pick [Avalanche] up, call AAA" Brain: "I should give Bill Apter an award, he survived six autopsies" I feel like this match started as filler, gave a nod and a wink to Hogan/Andre, then schmozz for the story of the show. A setup that WCW will abuse a LOT.

Bash at the Beach 1996 The Outsiders and a mystery partner vs Lex Luger, Macho Man Randy Savage and Sting I don't think I've actually watched this match, just the ending. I'm enjoying the paranoia at the table, upping the bickering between Brain and Dusty. Early on, if I "Forget' what the ending is I would suspect Luger, given his tendency to turn on a dime (and regularly against Sting) The rally brought the building to life, Hogan's arrival almost brought the house down but it brought us some history. Brain screaming "But whose side is he on~?!" is completely in character for him as he's hated Hogan since his WWF days. What I'm surprised that was never made a talking point is that a referee never officially counted the pin, so all of this is irrelevant... but never let that get in the way of a good story

I've been binging the Cena/Punk feud, which, as well as reminding me how insufferable early 2010s Cena was, also reminded me how awesome their Raw match from 25th February 2013 was. Seriously, one of the best Raw matches ever, it honestly should've main-evented Mania that year. Highly recommended. o/` Look in my eyes, what do you see? A realm of possibility o/` What if Punk had pinned Cena off the piledriver? What if Somehow this turned into a double-count out and the match at Mania was a triple threat? Punk would have gotten his main event at Wrestlemania, but win or lose would that have kept him in the WWE? Cena/Rock "Once in a Lifetime" could have BEEN "Once in a lifetime". This match, taking place on more "Cena Friendly" turf (Texas) made the crowd more even and added to the excitement for the match. Say what you will about kicking out of finishers, at the main event level that made this match that much more important and special. In today's climate I don't think they would have pulled the trigger for Punk just to shake up the main event at Mania just because of the casual fan draw that WWE relies on. I know that I, along with a lot of people on this board (and a few people I know who went to this Mania) would have been VERY interested in Rock/CM Punk. But what do you do with your current top merch guy in this case? It's really a shame.

Elimination Chamber match 2002 Survivor Series 2002 - if you're only there for the EC match, start around 1:45:00 because the video package for this match is still, bar none, one of the best I've ever seen the WWE do. I might also be biased because I am a huge fan of "literal editing". You will also get an RNN update - back when Randy Orton had a personality This match still holds up well for six guys who were being thrown in there trying to figure out what to do with it - I think that's also why Bischoff went out to grandstand and show off his "Baby" while the participants are trying to figure out what they can and can't do in there. HBK should have just gone in there in jeans - his incomplete dark brown tights were hideous. I forgot that Jericho got played in by Saliva for this one. Lawler: "I hear the pods are bulletproof, but are they fireproof?" (Booker T and Kane both got their fire in their entrances, back to back!) Given how tight HHH and Bischoff were, I'm actually surprised he wasn't put in one of the pods, but he opens against RVD. And this match had to deliver to top one of the bloodiest matches WWE has ever put on (HiaC at the previous month's No Mercy, Taker/Lesnar) Hunter took the several nasty bumps on the metal floor and walls, initially (the door broke and had to be re-secured). blink and you miss it - Jericho crotch chops HBK, HBK responds with a "Teeny weenie" gesture. I want to watch other EC matches to see if they actually had the pattern of releasing guys in reverse order of entry, as they did here. JR comments that the Chamber "isn't wrestler friendly", just really surprised it took almost 15 years to get it revamped. Hunter gets his larynx crushed even before Kane is released - which means he was out there with breathing issues for a good 30 minutes. A feat only topped in 2010 when Undertaker stayed for his entire match, not changing the script despite being accidentally set on fire. JR regarding the steel flooring around the ring: "Sometimes I think concrete would be 'nicer'." This match COULD be seen as window dressing of the ongoing HHH/HBK feud, but I feel the other four got showcased pretty well in this match. It may be cliche, but the first Chamber is still one of the best.

Shawn vs HBK Armageddon 2002 RVD was relegated to the World restaurant in Times Square so he wouldn't injure HHH again 2/3 fall matches are fun in their own right, so now we pile gimmicks on top of it. I am ok with this and hope there is a feud nasty enough in the near future that we get to do it again. Bischoff, ever the shit-stirrer, put the ladder match for fall 3 - perhaps as a motive to motivate HHH to win it in two falls? Commentary reminds us of a HHH/HBK backstage fight segment that ended with both of them in a dumpster. Something was mistimed when HBK jumped (off the back of a semi, IIRC) in so they couldn't look too long in the dumpster with these two laughing at each other. Looking at Flair in this video, yes it was 15 years ago, but from then to now hit him like 50 years. Lawler: "if it's a street fight, maybe they should be in street clothes..... I've heard that HBK used to walk down the street [in his entrance gear]" A lot of picking each other apart during the first fall. The flaming barbed wire 2x4 should have been used in the HHH/Rollins match.... but I don't think Dean would loan it out. LOTS of headshots, since this was well before concussion protocols. Flair once again wanted some spotlight, got in ALL of his bleeding when he could Logistically, swapping the cage and ladder match would have been easier on the crew since they had to scramble to get the cage raised, lower the loop to hang the belt on, get Flair out of there and a few other things in less than two minutes. House shows, I know they can get a cage around in the ring in less than 10 minutes, but that's a LOT of dead air if they tried to do it on tv. The abridged ladder match tells me that HHH is more than happy to leave ladder matches to his best friend.

Rock vs Kurt Angle Vs Bikertaker Vengance 2002 I wasn't at this one, but I was at KOR when Rock interfered in Taker's match with HHH. (sadly, post-show shenanigans of Rock and HHH beating up Taker for the lulz at KOR is not available) Love the "Hey I'm over here!" opening spot with Kurt. Angle was on a roll around this time - just removed from the hair v. hair match with Edge and making Hogan tap out. These guys love to steal each others finishers, don't they? I kinda miss that. Anyone know when Taker got into MMA? Thinking he got inspired from Angle putting him in a triangle choke. Kinda wish this had gone a couple more minutes since Kurt had JUST pulled the straps down before the finish. ETA: I've reviewed Sting/Luger v. the Steiners previously in this thread

I thought there was tension with Triple-H and Bischoff after the makeout session with Bischoff/Steph on the Halloween episode of Smackdown that year and Trips felt that he was getting screwed over because of it. The video package and theme song for this PPV was awesome, I thought 2002-2003 had a stretch of great PPV themes that got you hyped for the show.
