Can someone explain to me who Jay White is? He's booked against Hiroshi Tanahashi and I would like to know more about him.
I know Okada is the future but the one in a century ace Tanahashi is why I started watching New Japan.
If Okada is the main reason why they are profitable now and in the future, in my opinion Hiroshi Tanahashi is the reason why the company didn't fold during the dark years of the past decade.

Most people would agree with your assessment. Jay White was one of the top Young Lions in New Japan over the past couple of years, a New Zealand talent who was personally recruited to join the NJPW Dojo by Prince Devitt and who has a nationality connection with Bad Luck Fale. He's insanely athletic and dynamic in the ring, and has spent the past year or so on excursion in Ring of Honor. He comes back, somewhat surprisingly, as a heel with this new Switchblade character, and pushing him to an IC title match at the Dome for his return match indicates that Gedo is very high on him. Based on his Young Lion and ROH work he has plenty of reasons to feel confident in the kid: he's strong, he's quick, he strikes well, sells well, but it remains to be seen just how good he can be.

Thanks. I may be a heretic for saying this but Tanahashi is the reason I'm ordering the ppv instead of Okada or Jericho. It's a shame that Hiroshi's peak occurred during a period were njpw was almost in its last legs so there wasn't a lot of attention in the product.

Their really putting a lot of faith and trust in White to pair him up with Tanahashi and at the biggest show of the company. Not even Okada when he returned as The Rainmaker was put in a big match, his return was as the bathroom break match against Yoshi Hashi.

I like White in the ring. I just don't really buy him in this kinda role with that character. I dunno, it just seems non-threatening and his re-debut came off weak to me. He still has a lot of time and chance to make it work, though.

I think White will do more than fine, and I like the parallel between him and Juice as gaijins who came up as Young Lions. I'm curious to see where he fits with the roster on NYD.

Most Heels are aligned with a group but he's showed no allegiance to anyone. I think the annual big surprise at NYD will be something with Chaos. Think Goto usurps and kicks Okada as well as some others out of the faction and takes control.

WK12 preview from some of the NJPW English language team...from a "secret, undisclosed location" near LA. New LA dojo?

Is that guy on the left the replacement for Don Callis? No, Callis will be at the Dome. This guy was in some of the videos leading up to the Long Beach shows this past summer.

After a bit of ticket help if anyone has any ideas. Finally got my funds in place to go to Japan and order tickets for the event. The website on NJPW site now says “acceptance period of this item was over” so looks like I’ve missed out that way. Does anyone know any other way to get tickets?? Yes, which days are you getting to Japan?

The faction is big and getting bigger, so Goto taking a few members and siding with White would be cool to see.

There's clearly a lot of hope behind White, potentially to be their homemade gaijin star moving forward; Omega is a huge deal and his loyalties are clearly to New Japan right now, but for the most part they've got a lot of freelance gaijin whose name value would be worth something in terms of expanding out to the west, but who won't really be concrete New Japan guys. I expect that within the next few years, him and Juice Robinson are both going to be in major positions on the card because as gaijin who've come up through the dojo system and everything that comes with that, they're the perfect focuses to begin using as the appeal to foreign audiences while not just being indie guys on layover.

He still has a lot of time and chance to make it work, though. I agree, I wasn't convinced on his re-debut at Power Struggle. But I liked what I saw at the go home Kuroken show and he did a very good backstage interview as well. I think he will grow into the character just fine.

Only five days to go, and my excitement levels are beginning to peak. I've took the day off work to watch it live, the first time I'll ever be watching Wrestle Kingdom as it happens.
Who else will be in this thread watching live?

Yes, which days are you getting to Japan? We will be landing on the 2nd. Cool, you got plenty of time and a few options. Most of Japan shuts down in the days following New Years, but by the 3rd most places you want should be open. Your two best bets are very close to each other, the official New Japan store and the slice of wrestling obsessive Heaven known as Champions and Battle Royal. The latter are unaffiliated but have the most tremendous collection of wrestling VHS and DVDs (and other merch) you'll see, and are a great plug for tickets. I suggest going to them for your WK tickets as I got very good very close seats for what translates to $75 american. Otherwise, would you be up for seeing more wrestling while you're out there? In that case, you can get your WK tickets right at the Tokyo Dome/Korauken Hall box office. They usually run two shows on January 3rd, All Japan in the afternoon (where they have a lot of legends, last year I saw Ultimo Dragon, Jun Kasai, Tiger Mask, and a boatload more) and DDT at night (who are super hot, the #2 Japan promotion and probably the most Japanese-thing you'll see on your trip. It's the promotion that really launched Ibushi and Kenny Omega, and along with an outstanding main event, you'll also get some fun Japanese absurdity, so if you're traveling with a casual fan even they'll enjoy the bizarre punk rock wrestling outfit that is DDT). I recommend both, but if you had to choose, there's really nothing like DDT. I'd recommend going to the box office early as DDT WILL sell-out. I wouldn't worry about Wrestle Kingdom selling out though. Tokyo Dome is HUUUUUGE and, while it's a big turnout, hasn't come close to selling out in over a decade. Fear not, you're going to be able to see it and have great seats. Also, FYI, Ribera Steak House is going to be closed on the 2nd and 3rd, and jampacked on the 4th, so if you're going to try it, stop by the 5th or later. Hope this helps!
