Sounds like I made the right decision in sitting out this one. Those fatalities would have given me nightmares. no watch it. best nickelodeon movie ever. Well at least since Good Burger. (I defend that movie till death) Seriously, I won't watch it. Hearing how La Sombra dies already freaks me out due to my high sensitivity issues (Yes I'm that big a pussy, but its a severe mental issue). That said, glad to hear about the happy ending.

Just kind of f***ed up for a kids show. It's not visually disturbing or nightmare inducing, at least from my perspective. No blood.

Was Big Bob Pataki in the movie? Does he operate a Verizon kiosk at the mall now after the beeper business went belly up?

I missed the first 20 minutes... why are the kids on a field trip to South America? How did this whole adventure begin?
Wasn't this shows appeal based on being more or less realistic?

This shit was awesome.
Got off to a slow start but by the Tribute, it hits the pedal. By the end it felt like more of a complete full length film than most Nick films.
I did wonder "how would little kids react to this?.." considering a lot is fan service but meh. I grew up on Hey Arnold, I'll take the nostalgia, f*** off kids.
Lasombra is a POS. You could see the twist coming a mile away but what a Evil, funny villain. And perfect comeuppance too.
Daaaaamn Helga came off rapey in that first confession...and daaaaamn Olga likes her some Hispanic dudes.
I chuckled and smiled through out but LEGIT laughed out loud at 4 points:
"A piggy eating bacon?..creeeepy"
"It's one way communication...JUST LIKE ME AND CHE!"
"I could un-see that"
"Who is that adorable little blonde boy?"
Just a great film. A beautiful, emotional ending. "How bad could sixth grade be?" I got flashbacks to how bad sixth grade could be. Honestly, it's impressive they maintained the same tone as the original series. The heart and the humor. Grandpa and Grandma and Abner were highlights but almost all of the characters got their due. It's a perfect end, if it truly is the end. Awesome flick.

That was everything I wanted. I figured it was gonna be a happy ending, though I thought early Helga would get turned down or his parents would truly be dead.
I also liked when all the beepers went off at the Pataki's...

just remembered. Lila wasn't on the trip either was she? Nope she wasn't. I just saw a vid on YouTube with the creators doing a live chat q&a and they said they cut Lila out cause they wanted the story to be about Arnold and Helga getting together without any other love interests getting in the way of the main love story

Arnold realizes the girl for him was in in front of him.

So I've had some time to think on it, and I still love it. My only major malfunction was why didn't Eduardo appear when they went after the boat? The way he spoke made me think he was present for that, not that he just sent people on his behalf. Maybe I misheard or missed a line in there?
I got the impression (and read somewhere) that there was somewhat of a time skip between the journal episode and this movie, and the fact that this was the Summer of them going from 5th to 6th grade (wonder if they kept up the promise to not do the 4th grader bullying...day...thing...I forget the name) confirmed it for me. The reason I bring this up is, It did seem like at the start Arnold was a little more "clued in" on Helga. Arnold and Gerald seemed to brush Helga's attitude towards Arnold off, and not just in a "Yeah, we go through this all the time" manner. It made me think maybe Arnold at some point had it figured out before the start of the movie, and the fact Arnold was the one that wanted the kiss at the end as opposed to Helga grabbing Arnold or anything like that makes me think at the very least Arnold wasn't completely blind to how Helga felt. On top of that, they made it pretty clear Gerald "got it", and that he did so before Helga went to him for help on the video. And while I'm sure he'd let Helga make/break the whole thing and not do anything to "shoot the shot" for her, it makes me think something had happened to change their perception of Helga when the film started. And as for Lyla, they did so much of her telling Arnold she didn't "like him like him", I just assumed Arnold gave up on her. I almost seem to remember that playing out in an episode? Maybe I'm wrong...I even have the whole series on DVD and my memory of the last season or so is fuzzy as hell.
I liked all the little winks and quotes from the past. Not shoehorned in, just little nudges. I always hate it when shows pull way too hard for those.
I was expecting them to come up with some twist on Arnold's last name, since the idea that "it was supposed to be Shortman" was pretty prevalent. But since it was never done in the show itself, they had an excuse to retcon that. I'm very much a follower of the idea of "if it never happened on the [piece of media], don't treat it as canon". I'm not big on assuming fan theories are canon, and I hate it when people play that card. You can believe they are true if you want, there's some I believe that are, but I don't plug those in as being as canon as the story itself if they don't blatantly show and/or tell that. Didn't mean to go off on a tangent. Anyway, that was about the only answer that made sense in the context of the show. Glad they didn't overthink it and try to misdirect people in the name of just doing it.
This is probably the best Nickelodeon movie ever, even if you include their theatrical stuff. And while I didn't like waiting THIS long for it, I am glad it stuck to a TV format. If Nickelodeon had gone ahead with this as a theatrical film as originally planned, you know their'd be a bunch of musical numbers and late 90s/early 00s b-list and c-list teenpop acts. Harold and Curly would've sung someone's song on the soundtrack when they had to do a distraction, some chase scene would've been set to Aaron Carter or a Baha Men track, that kind of crap. And it would've killed the pacing so badly. Some people aren't too keen on how "dark" it got, but there's nothing light or fluffy about a modern-day pirate kidnapping a child, looking (and willing to kill) for a treasure, a child on a quest to find his parents that may or may not be alive, etc. And the moments of brevity in the film were well-placed to keep it from going full-on grim and gritty. And I feel like had they released it in theaters, the story would've been more lighthearted in general and/or the mood of the film would've shifted violently from lighthearted moments to dark ones. This one found a pace to stick with.
One complaint I keep seeing online was how "dark" it got. And while the film certainly wasn't "light", there were episodes of the original show that I wouldn't define as "light" either; when Helga has to see a psychiatrist, Dino Spumoni's fake death, Mr. Hyunh and his daughter, the episode where Lyla first shows up, I could go on and on. This show cuts deep while being absolutely believable, and that was a major reason I loved it as a kid. And this film was right in line with that. I mean, the kid is trying to find out the fate of his parents in a jungle being ruled by a ruthless pirate while being accompanied by a classmate who, by this point in the show, NEEDS to confess her feelings...things were inevitably going to get heavy.
I don't think the film was perfect, but compared to so many of Nick's heavily flawed films in the past (though I must admit I've watched none of them since...I dunno...the first few Fairly Oddparents films...sans the "Sozin's Comet" finale of Avatar; The Last Airbender), it nailed it. It was carried on all the strengths that made the show amazing and relatable, and it felt DAMN good to finally get closure on the series.

Well, the big reason that people've treated it as canon for years is because Bartlett came out and said that's his name and that the original plan for revealing it in the Jungle Movie was for him to sign for a package.
