Thinking on Bartlett's original plans, if I remember right Arnold was going to stay with his parents in San Lorenzo and continue to help the green eyes. I am sooo glad that was changed.

I got the impression (and read somewhere) that there was somewhat of a time skip between the journal episode and this movie, and the fact that this was the Summer of them going from 5th to 6th grade (wonder if they kept up the promise to not do the 4th grader bullying...day...thing...I forget the name) confirmed it for me. The reason I bring this up is, It did seem like at the start Arnold was a little more "clued in" on Helga. Arnold and Gerald seemed to brush Helga's attitude towards Arnold off, and not just in a "Yeah, we go through this all the time" manner. It made me think maybe Arnold at some point had it figured out before the start of the movie, and the fact Arnold was the one that wanted the kiss at the end as opposed to Helga grabbing Arnold or anything like that makes me think at the very least Arnold wasn't completely blind to how Helga felt. On top of that, they made it pretty clear Gerald "got it", and that he did so before Helga went to him for help on the video. And while I'm sure he'd let Helga make/break the whole thing and not do anything to "shoot the shot" for her, it makes me think something had happened to change their perception of Helga when the film started. And as for Lyla, they did so much of her telling Arnold she didn't "like him like him", I just assumed Arnold gave up on her. I almost seem to remember that playing out in an episode? Maybe I'm wrong...I even have the whole series on DVD and my memory of the last season or so is fuzzy as hell. Well if you remember in the theatrical movie, Helga actually did confess her feelings to Arnold. She quickly dismissed it at the end, but Arnold didn't really buy her denial. It probably took these events for him to come around, but he knew how Helga fell about him.

I still want to see they stuff with Helga and her family as I really want to see what happened in between years and the downfall of Big Bob's Beeper Empire

I kinda like that Arnold moved in for a kiss and waited for Helga to meet him halfway. Made sense due to their height difference and all, but it's just also a characteristically considerate move on his part.

Between the three channels it was on the Jungle Movie did about 1.6 million viewers. Nothing spectacular but between being on Thanksgiving weekend and Nickelodeon's usual average being 1.2 million it's not a bad performance by any means, though that's not getting into how they also had it available to watch on the website earlier in the day.
So really not bad at all, though of course you do have some people who just see, "Did worse than the usual episode of Loud House," and instantly declare it a total flop.

I never saw the cartoon much. Pretty sure it aired during a period when I didn't have cable. But my lady and some friends of ours love the cartoon. So got a copy and watched it with them the other night.
Well done animation for a TV movie. Good voice acting and it only took me about 15 minutes to understand the various characters' motives. Well done film that I am kind of glad I saw.
