Thinking about getting this since it's on sale. Just a few questions first
1 - How difficult is it? I've read mixed things online that the start game is difficult but gets easy, and some saying it's an average challenge throughout. I'm not a fan of overly difficult games, especially ones that harshly punish one single misstep. Like XCOM2, make one mistake and that's it, you might as well restart the mission. I like a bit of leeway where if I f*** up, use the wrong spell or item etc It's not necessarily game over.
2 - Are the combat/bosses frustrating and cheap? I hate cheap tactics on games.
3 - What are the characters like? For RPG games, I really struggle to get into them if I find the characters boring or worse, unlikeable. FFXV had it's flaws but the cast of characters and relationship between them was amazing. Is the cast and relationships between characters strong?
4 - Is there lots to unlock and discover? I love RPGs with secrets to find, explore and unlock rather than say, FFXIII's corridors.

1-You can change the difficulty at any time, normal dififuclty should be enough for you to have fun, there is a good leeway
2-Played on Hard mode and didn't find any of then cheap.
3- God,the characters are GREAT,persona have the best characters.
4-The dungeons there as a hallways and rooms to explore and treasure chests to find, plus finding all the personas you can unlock. But they are still hallways and rooms, you won't have open fields outside of the city hub(which there isn't much to explorer). But you can visit and unlock various places of tokyos

One I forgot to add. I know there's social aspects, is that a big part of the game? Because that sounds a lot of fun. Plus I know it's set in days, is there a time limit? Like if I want to spend a few in-game days doing social stuff and exploring Tokyo without venturing into the dungeons, can I? Or do you get "clear this dungeon in the next 2 days" type messages.

I'd recommend watching this. The humor is kindof an acquired taste (I think it's funny, but you might not...), but it's a good primer on the game. She keeps the spoilers to a minimum, but does give you subtle hints for some ending-effecting decisions you'll have to make. She also has a "Yelling about Persona 5" video, unlike this, is chock full of spoilers from top to bottom. Stay the hell away from that. One thing I cannot stress enough is that you SHOULD NOT go out and read the story or any spoilers for the game, because it will affect your playthrough of the game. The Persona games are story-dependent as all hell, and I ruined the Persona 4 game for myself by watching the Persona 4 anime first. Once I did that and then put in Persona 4, I had NO desire to play through it knowing every trick and twist. In fact, Atlas is so huge on keeping the story under wraps that they have the share button disabled throughout the game; no streams, no videos, not even a screenshot. They also had MAJOR regulations on streams not using the PS4's share feature, but have lightened up. Cheers One I forgot to add. In order: Yes, social aspects are huge in this. They power up your persona summons as well as give you extra abilities in battle. Plus you learn a TON more about the characters through these events. Also worth mentioning, you can "friend-zone" any female friends in case you want the boosts but don't want them to be your girlfriend. At some point around level 8 or 9 in the relationship (out of 10), you'll have a choice to make where the options are very clearly "you're such a good friend" or putting the moves on. And without spoiling the what/when/how, there ARE repercussions for trying to balance multiple romantic relationships. Yes, there is a time limit on levels, and they're displayed in the HUD, but you should have plenty of time to defeat the current dungeon with time to spare. And you still get "free days" after you beat the dungeon to REALLY focus on the social stuff. If you beat a level with 8 days left, it doesn't just fast-forward 8 days to the conclusion. But top priority is always the dungeon. Because of this, I HEAVILY advise you to make backup saves whenever a new countdown begins, so you can pull it back up in case you somehow work yourself into a corner.

I'll give the video a watch in a little bit. It sounds awesome. The time limit is disappointing I'll admit, I'm not a fan at all of been forced to rush things on games. Glad though that if you clear a level it gives you the extra days free.
Seems like it's a game I'm going to get though. Heard nothing but good things about the story and I'm glad the social aspect and characters are good/key focus since the social aspect is what appeals to me most.

I found it was only somewhat difficult for the first two dungeons. After that the game loads you perks that makes things easy to exploit if you know how.
The difficulty is nothing on 3 or 4, though.

FFXV had it's flaws but the cast of characters and relationship between them was amazing. Is the cast and relationships between characters strong? 4 - Is there lots to unlock and discover? I love RPGs with secrets to find, explore and unlock rather than say, FFXIII's corridors. 1. As mentioned before it's kind of a rough go at first, but if you boost your stats, levels and confidant links as the game progresses you'll be able to get perks and equipment that'll even things out. 2. The Persona series has a strict almost pokemon like battle system where the monsters (and your party) are almost always strong or weak against certain magic or attacks, knowing how to plan your party/attacks accordingly will make all the difference. It may take a little trial and error at first, but once you learn what to do during every encounter you'll be fine. 3. Characters are very likeable and diverse though I'll admit a little idealized at times, but the same could be same for all teen dramas. The best part of the Persona games are the deep bonds you forge with not only your own party members, but the other characters you encounter. By the end of the game you'll find your perception of some characters will be a lot different then when you first encountered them. 4. Yes, in fact this is the kind of game New Game + was made for as you'll most likely won't be able to see and do everything on your first play through (Unless you follow a strict guide.) Even then there is some new content that opens up on NG+. (And luckily some stuff carries over making it less of a grind.)

It won't feel rushed, dont worry, there is plenty time Right. I know I said "you need to KO the palaces first" (I forgot the game's term for "dungeons" when I made that post), but you have to pretty blatantly ignore the deadline (and you'll be reminded of it A TON) to not meet it. I would say for the first palace or two, make as much progress as you can on the palace each day and do that early, just so you can get a good idea of how the system works (the palace system is one of those things that's easier to grasp as you play as opposed to one of us telling you about it...it's complex to explain and might seem overwhelming to hear it, but in practice it's easy). Shoot, I for one was surprised by how large the very first palace was. But essentially, taking a day or two or even three to take care of other business before you've beaten the palace isn't going to screw you. The team will also tell you approximately how much of the palace is left, and usually they're spot on (though sometimes they'll tell you there's a ton left when there really isn't that much). There's pretty much NO way in hell you'll get to the end of a palace on the first trip in, and even the 2nd or 3rd likely won't get you to the end; you'll run out of ability points and/or healing items (especially the latter in the early game) and relying on just melee and guns is a recipe for disaster. But your team will often give some line like "I feel like we've not even made a dent" or "We're really close to the treasure, I just know it!". Basically, you don't want to put yourself in a spot where you have 2-3 days left (the game'll explain why better than I could, but you HAVE to devote one day for the palace boss itself) and you have a TON of the palace left and no save to revert back to. Like I said before, it's a good idea to make a backup save before each palace (and I even made them after I beat a palace too) in case shit goes south and your only save is at a spot where you've buried yourself too deep.

I've just escaped the first dungeon before you arrive at the school. Great game so far.
One huge annoyance. Not been able to save when you want. I hate that. If I want to stop playing I want to be able too, not have to slug onwards until the game lets me quit.
I left the dungeon, just entered the school and still can't save. Got to leave the PS4 on all night because I don't want to lose my hours progress and my wife's waiting vto watch a movie.
Other than that, I love it. Great graphics, great design, awesome music.

There are "safe rooms" within the level itself where you can save, heal (though NOT regenerate SP...running out of that stuff is the official sign you need to call it a day) and also use as a starting point when you re-enter the palace. But yeah, when you first start the game you gotta play for awhile before you can save. I just thought about that after I made my previous post, but it sounds like you discovered that anyway.
