I mean the Vin Diesel and Ice Cube movies, not porno. I've never seen them and have recently become curious about them. They seem to have decent casts for action movies, but they look kind of stupid at the same time.
So for those who have seen it, is this a critical piece of action cinema I'm missing out on, or is it utter garbage I'm better off not wasting my time with?

I've only seen the first, which is a perfectly competently okay action movie.

The first one's pretty good. It's not going to blow your mind in terms of plot or anything, but it's a fun watch. The second one seemed a little dull to me, but it's not awful.
Haven't seen the third one yet.

First one is basically X-Treme Sports Bond, it's pretty cheesy, and a product of the time.
Second one is worth it for the deleted scene of them killing Vin Diesel. And by Vin Diesel, I mean his stunt double and audio from previous movie.
Haven't seen the third one, but I heard it was scientifically designed to appeal to as many markets as possible.

Saw the first one. That was way more than enough.

Never saw the sequels but I can't hate a film that has Hatebreed in the soundtrack

Watching the first one now. It starts with a dead body being crowd surfed at a Rammstein concert. It doesn't get any more early '00s than that.
Man, this sucks already.

Okay, I can't even watch any more of this. This is one of the most terrible things I've ever attempted to watch.
The only good thing I have to say about it is that it technically counts as a movie.
I'm sorry I ever started a thread about this, I'll find something else to watch.

I wouldn't waste your time as all three of the XXX movies suck.

You’ll definitely need a frosty cold Surge while you watch the first one.

The first one has Asia Argento in it. And damn I have had a crush on her since I was a teen. It is a decent rental action film. Never saw all of the second one with Ice Cube. Haven't seen the third with Vin coming back.

I remember having had a love/hate relationship with the first film at one point. I enjoy the stunts and action, so I do like the film, but then on the other hand, I had an issue with the fact that it catered to teens and tried to be hip. The second film, well, that is a film that I enjoy while acknowledging a lot of the problems it has. Plus, if you want to see badly done CGI sequences, try watching the final chase sequence. It looks too much like a video game. As for the third film, well, I do own it and I will admit that I saw it in theaters. I enjoyed the scenes with Donnie Yen and a lot of the action was decent, but it felt like Vin Diesel was trying to do a Fast & Furious-like film with having a team of people this time around. It was also a bit much to have Vin be treated like he was hot shit with the women and such, especially when the women are a lot younger than him in the film. I still enjoyed it, though.

I find that scene funny as looking bad its hard not to laugh myself stupid at how both the producers and Vin Diesel honestly were delusional enough to think that the first XXX film was going to kill off and replace the Bonds films.

DAMMIT. I missed this thread. You should've watched all three and let us follow your descent into madness.

I don't know about Vin Diesel as he left the franchise immediately after it seems, but from the director's commentary for the first Fast and the Furious film (same guy as xXx), the director certainly sounded like that's what he wanted.

Oh the film makers were amazingly petty that Vin didn't want to/ couldn't do the sequel.

I find it funny how a friend of mine would watch these movies but not the Fast & Furious films. One reason he had told me is that he was never a Paul Walker fan, but even then, the F&F movies are rather similar to xXx, especially considering how they had become over-the-top action flicks. Hell, the first xXx film capitalized on the success of the first F&F film.
