I think they are clearly setting up Velveteen Dream and Black as unlikely partners. Dream has won Black's begotten respect a'la Mankind with Rock or Goldust with Booker T.

I think once Roose and Nakamura left NxT started flourishing on it's own Roose Bolton was in NXT? Man didn't you see Ramseys uber push as the main heel of the show. And I meant Roode haha

Once again, thank goodness NXT stopped bullshitting and started pushing the few people I actually f*** with. Almas? He nice. Gargano? Nice The match they are gonna have for the title, especially if their previous Takeover match is any preview? Too nice. For the first time in ages, I actually give a f*** about this title picture. They get the dead weight like Roode out of the way and things improve immediatly. For real. This is the first time I care about the title since Owens reign. Balor's was flat, Joe, Nakamura, and McIntyre had no substance, and Roode was a drag for the majority of it. That's been the problem with NXT for about two years which has now been rectified recently; it became nothing but an indy all-star circle jerk. In retrospect Balor, Joe, Nakamura, Roode, and now McIntyre should have all went directly to the main show, These guys are superstars and they look out of place on NXT. Sure they're still hiring some notable names but it's more of the 'hey I know that guy, he's pretty good' variety similar to guys from the past like Tyler Black, John Moxley, El Generico, and PAC. Now we're finally seeing lesser know talents flourishing in addition to the guys and girls from the PC thrown into the mix. The product is refreshing and interesting again.

This is looking like the best set of tapings they've had in quite awhile. The only things that don't sound super interesting are The Undisputed Era and the women's division, but other than that, shit's goood. Gargano vs. Ohno especially sounds amazing.

This has to be leading to Ciampa making his return at Takeover Philly to cost Gargano another match, this time in person.

Honestly I feel like they've pretty much bungled this whole Gargano / Ciampa thing to tell the truth. They kind of seem to simultaneously be doing the story of Ciampa not wanting to let Gargano overshadow him and being out to destroy him because of that, like that was his initial point on leaving and it'd be consistent with Ciampa coming to screw him out of the NXT title, but while also wanting to do the idea that Gargano can't get Ciampa out of his head and his career is suffering because of it.
Which... Okay, those ideas COULD work together and I guess kind of are, but I dunno, it just doesn't work for me. I think the big reason is because there's really no way to pay it off where they both benefit from it - either Ciampa just loses to Gargano immediately on coming back to finish Gargano's arc and that's the end of that with him just winding up the firm second place of the pair, or Gargano loses and just looks like a chump because he still can't get past his hang-ups from a breakup that happened months ago. Or Ciampa cheats I guess but that'd completely undercut his motivation.
Like it's a fine template for a story really, just not a wrestling story so much. It feels more like, I dunno, something from a shonen manga or something where it really doesn't matter if the ex-friend looks credible or has a direction afterward.

These tapings sound awesome! Sooooo, it's Gargano vs Almas at Takeover Philly or a random NXT episode in January??

In the past few months NXT has really been getting back into its former self again. They had a very rocky period with Dusty dying and Ryan Ward getting called up so the obvious dip in quality was kind of a given, and I think the new people taking over took how hot people were for the "indie dream matches in a WWE ring thing" as a crutch to lean on. The tag division remained top notch and the talent was always there, but now they've settled more comfortably into their role, and now people have characters and storylines, and the whole thing is starting to feel more natural again. Dream and Black had a great story to tell that just worked, Gargano on the rise brings back memories of Zayn rising up to that same role, but this time Ciampa as his Owens is something they can roll eith because neither is getting called up soon or screwed by injury (hopefully). The women's division feels infinitely fresher not having Asuka's streak hanging over everything. This is going to be a good time.

It's sad that Dain and Cross seem to be more and more becoming their own things. Maybe Sanity might not even make it to the main roster as a group like #DIY.
On the other hand I love them both and want to see them do cool things, but they are chained down by being in Sanity.

Wolfe being injured shakes things up a lot, but Nikki was always doing her own stuff on the side. Whether or not Sanity goes up is going to have a lot to do with how they see Eric Young as far as someone who should be on the main roster versus the veteran helping out in NXT above all else.

Yeah, Dain and Cross are the breakout stars of this faction which says a lot because Eric Young is an established veteran who's proved how good he is and Alexander Wolfe is also immensely talented.
