So first off, I'm mentally disabled. I have mainly emotional problems (bipolar, depression, anxiety, anti-social, etc.) I sell plasma for extra money as I don't work.
Usually, I just keep to myself and don't really socialize or make small talk with people. Today, I was in a rare mood to put myself out there a little bit and be social. I went to sell plasma as I usually do on Wednesday, and the young lady working the front counter was someone I see in there literally every time I go. She is always asking my name for verification (it's part of the procedure that they aske your full name before they do anything to you, even if the same person deals with you multiple times in a day.) Today when she asked my name, I said it and then asked "What's your name?" as they do not wear name tags. She suddenly got an attitude and said "I don't have a name!" And then literally turned up her nose at me as she hurriedly walked away from me.
I became highly upset because it reminded me why I don't talk to people much, and felt stupid for trying to be friendly to someone. It upset me so highly that my pulse was too high for me to be able to sell plasma today. And I have been obsessed about this all day now. Why or how did I offend her? Also, I'm scared to go back now because if I see her in there it may cause me to get nervous and my pulse to be too high again.
Did I break some social rule I don't understand or was she just mean? And how do I keep calm next time I go there?

The thing about people is, the vast, vast majority are serious assholes.
There’s plenty of times in my daily life where I think “Serves me right for talking to someone”.

Maybe she has no name and it's a very sensitive topic.

Maybe she has no name and it's a very sensitive topic. I hope that's the case, instead of the other option of 'she's just a gigantic bitch'.

I wouldn't take it too personally. While I don't want to paint too broad a brush on this, I'd imagine selling your blood attracts all kinds of questionable people and she's probably just had a lot of bad experiences with them, so she's gonna be very suspicious and gun shy of just about anybody who comes in there looking to be friendly with her.
While I don't have the emotional problems to the extreme you do, I do have issues with self-esteem and sociability, so I admire you for being willing to take a chance. Keep it up, you may find someone worth being a friend with. Just don't get too discouraged if there are a lot of people who aren't interested.

She took it differently than you intended; not much you can do about that.
Don't sweat it.

Yeah she just sounds like she was shut off conversationally. Wouldn't take it personal, and you weren't in the wrong.
She just didn't wanna be bothered.

Maybe she's had a lot of smartasses give her the sarcastic "oh yeah, well what's your name?" type stuff and didn't realize you were just being friendly.

I was just curious to know the first name of a person that sticks needles in me on a regular basis. That way, whenever I saw her I could say "Hi (insert name here)" instead of being complete strangers with someone that pokes and prods me regularly. I would actually be able to shrug this off a lot easier if I wasn't 100% positive that I will have to interact with her again several times in the future.

She has no name. Her designation is Seven of Nine, tertiary adjunct of Unimatrix 01.

Like I said, don't take it personally, she's probably had incidents in the past and was just doing what she thought she needed to do to avoid one in the future. She's probably already forgotten about it, you're better off doing the same.

Just goin by the text of your post, she thought you were hittin on her. That's nothing to do with you, but women especially are propositioned on some level pretty much every day.
Again, don't sweat it. She took it as something other than you having a conversation. Let it slide.
Plus, if she works there she probably sees a hundred people every day; don't think about it any more, you can almost guarantee she ain't.

Gave plasma severa hundred times in college and the crowd in there was often sketchy to say the least. Imagine the employees develop pretty thick social calluses quick.

Clearly this no-named individual could only be one person:

Maybe she has no name and it's a very sensitive topic. Is she perhaps a horse, disguised as a human?! She's actually a broom Edit: Oh I should also mention that it's standard policy at most facilities like plasma donation centers and the like for the staff to not identify themselves to the people who come in because of incidents where people stalk or harass them since they attract a lot of unsavory types. It's not even uncommon for them to be assigned fake names at times.

And I know it's their real name because other people call them that too. I thought I had interacted with this young lady enough that it was okay to ask. I guess not.

Sometimes even the best people wake up on the wrong side of the bed. And sometimes even the worst people wake up on the right side of the bed. Could very much have just been a shitty day/time/situation that you had nothing to do with.
Not saying that's the answer, but it's possible.

It's all good. I'm still a little bothered by it but not obsessing over it anymore. I'm going to go back tomorrow, and if I have to deal with her agin, I'll just answer the questions she asks me simple as that. I will neither try to be nice to her nor ask her why she was rude to me. I just hope my anxiety and pulse agree with my brain.
