Maybe she has no name and it's a very sensitive topic. Is she perhaps a horse, disguised as a human?! Actually....she's a broom. Edit: damn beaten to it

I had a friend in high school that pushed his luck, shall we say, with women providing a service. We’d stop somewhere to eat and the waitress would ask, “Is there anything more I can get you?” He’d say, “Your phone number” and smile at her. I felt so awkward witnessing that and I felt bad for the waitress. She’s just trying to do her job and just because she has to interact with people she shouldn’t be subjected to that kind of stuff. That said, it happens to a lot of women.
You see all this stuff about sexual harassment these days and it’s not just affecting celebrities. Hotel maids, stewardesses, hairdressers, etc. and probably just about any job you can think of have women that have to be cautious because they never know who they’re dealing with. Plenty of guys are just looking for an opening to slide in there with some sort of intentions. Springing the “What’s your name” line in there probably felt like you were looking for a spot to her and that was her knee jerk reaction. I’m not judging you or questioning your intentions. It’s just obvious to me that she thought you were hitting on her and she just wanted to do her job, so that’s why it happened, to answer your question.
As to why you’re so bothered by it only you would know. Could be the feeling of immediate hostility or rejection. Perhaps it was that you asked an innocent question that you feel was taken the wrong way. Again, a lot of that reaction came from the delivery of your question so you shouldn’t take it personally. It was her defense mechanism. I know plenty of women that carry their keys with the sharp edge of a key facing out from their hand on the way to their car. A lot of women always have their guard up and they have to be cautious. There are a lot of creeps out there. I’m not implying in any way that you’re one of them. I’m just trying to help you understand that strange men can be seen as dangerous to many women. It’s a very real and unfortunate situation for a lot of women to deal with.

It's hard to say why she reacted the way she did. We only have your side of the story and we know nothing about her. I've known plenty of women who have been hit on that work in the service industry. It's an almost constant happening that she might have her defenses up. My wife used to be a server and the amount of times she got hit on, and had guys straight up ask her to go back their rooms with them was insane. That's not counting the amount of times that she was groped by customers. Assuming this has happened to her, then it might make sense to react the way she did.

Had a buddy that managed a plasma center,at his work everyone went by nicknames. Mostly cause of how many ,I will be nice, less than pleasant people they dealt with on a daily basis.

The thing about people is, the vast, vast majority are serious assholes. There’s plenty of times in my daily life where I think “Serves me right for talking to someone”. That is his name sir. Asshole. Major Asshole.

Honestly...she just sounds like a bitch to react in such a way from a simple question. People baffle me at times as well but believe most of the responses to your thread, you did nothing wrong,

For as much of an overreaction as it sounds, “I don’t have a name!” Is a pretty funny way to respond to that question.

She just misheard the lyrics to AJ Styles theme song.
Name? I don't got none.
Name? I don't got none.
Name? I don't got none.
They callin' Cara, no I ain't got none.
