Yeah, I can see it being Mark's best. Fair point.

I had a lot of my cousins work as extras in the movie.

It's awesome. Is it anyone involved's best movie? Nope. Who cares, it's a great time. I actually think it's Wahlbergs best. It has a distinct lack of Michael Keaton quoting TLC and working in a Bed, Bath, And Beyond as his side job.

I don't drink cranberry juice anymore because of the Departed.

It's a fun movie for the most part, but I echo the sentiments that Infernal Affairs was waaaaaaaaay better.
Scorsese works for me in a very specific box - crime/funny/outlandish type stuff is where he really shines. WoWS, Goodfellas, Casino.
When he tries to go too serious (especially post-Casino) he looses something for me.
The Departed was somewhere in between his super serious stuff and his outlandish stuff so it was 50/50 for me.

i was actually shocked at how it all ended really won't say for those who haven't only seen it once The ending actually really sucks compared to the original incarnation that is Infernal Affairs, which is a movie that is about a thousand times better because it had an ending that fit what the movie was all about. I guess when Marty was making The Departed, he decided the American audience wouldn't be happy with that. It's a fine movie, but once I saw Infernal Affairs, it made itself pretty obsolete. Well, I think when they resigned themselves to not remaking any of the sequels, they decided they couldn't have it end that way. {Spoiler}Sure, the villain winning is almost always the preferred ending these days, but since they weren't continuing the franchise...

It’s a good character driven crime movie. It’s definitely worth a watch. While it’s not one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, it’s a lot of fun.

It was my favorite Leo movie until Wolf of Wall Street....I like the movie as a whole though there's about 5 of Marty's movies I like better.

I like the scene where Jack Nicholson has very sensibly ordered everyone to turn over personal info so he can check their identities, and Leo basically just says “f this, I’m mobile” and no one seems to think “this might be worth a second look”.

Keep in mind, just my opinion but most winners don't age well. Also I left many years off since while a movie like Cavalcade may indeed be my least favorite Best Picture winner of all time, I didn't feel too gungho about the other nominees. Cavalcade is just so horrible. What's insane is that 1933 was an amazing year for movies, yet it is represented by the most dreary British melodrama. I do think that movie has one amusing scene, where two of the main characters are on a ship and talking in platitudes like "Wouldn't it be amazing if it all ended here and now??" Then they walk away and we see the name on the life preserver nearby: Titanic. Come to think of it 1932 is represented by Grand Hotel, another dreary melodrama. At least it had a big name cast though.
