I remember doing this, which is strange as I would have been 5 or 6. I remember mailing in an answer and getting back a reply that told me I was on the right track to find the captain. I thought it was really down to me finding him. I sent the next clue in and don't recall ever hearing back.

The Cap'n would answer and congratulate you for being on the right track or something to that effect, then the Sogmaster would interrupt and tell you that you'll never win, ect. Pretty cool...and somewhat freaky stuff for a 5 year old (or for me, 4 if this took place before October 6). I don't watch a lot of television anymore, and hardly ever watch kids programming when I do, so I don't know if they even still have cereal commercials any more. I wish they did and they'd go back to this sort of format...not necessarily the contest stuff, but the episodic format where every commercial was an action packed event. Like watching a cartoon while watching cartoons or something. An absolute ton of fun! I'm guessing parents whining for unhealthy eating or "brainwashing" or whatever is to blame, but I can't help but look back on all these old cereal commercials with fondness and I don't really eat cereal too much anymore (so, so much for the "brainwashing" arguments).

Maybe it was a number, it's been over thirty years so I wouldn't be surprised if my mind was making stuff up. I just remember five year old me thinking this was really important.
