I know a good bit of people don't seem to like him as champion but I enjoyed his work. He was always over in ECW when I saw him live.

I became a massive fan of ECW in '99 when I got my first exposure in the Midwest and while I always liked Justin he just seemed a step below others on the card, but heck that was everyone outside of Van Dam. To me if RVD didn't get injured, he would have been best to put as champ but alas it didn't happen.

He was kind of like Jeff Jarrett in late WCW for me.
I don't have an issue with them as world champion. I can buy into it to a degree. But it does serve to highlight a lack of better options, or an unwillingness to go with one.

Well its rumored that Paul Heyman thought he wasn't very good and only put the belt on him to prevent another Mike Awesome takes the belt to WCW type of situation from happening again.

Hated his title run, I wish they had pulled the trigger on Rhino as ECW Champion at that time instead of 2001.

They just tried to hard to make Credible the main guy. They had him destroy Sandman and Raven, did some bullshit angle to run Sabu out of the company, Justin also defeated Shane Douglas and sent him to wcw. Finally he ruined Tommy Dreamer's happiest moment in winning the belt.
Also the way Credible carried Sandman's cane and the way he was dressed, Justin Credible in my mind was nothing more than an ecw cover band.

Credit where it’s due, I absolutely loathed his character. Him ruining Dreamer’s moment is up there with Aitch taking back the title from Jericho as one of the most infuriating wrestling moments to me. With that said he was a shit standard bearer. That they went with him shows how dire the company’s situation was.

I liked his character. He made you hate him and you wanted to see him get his comeuppance. I always felt like he would have made a better midcard heel to get a face over to the next level. 2000 ECW was almost dead in the water at that time. They still put on good shows, but looking back at it, you could see that they had an ever-thinning roster. WWE and WCW took too many of their big names and RVD was injured.

I thought it was lame. Paul only put it on him because he knew that neither the WWF or WCW would even bother to try to snatch him away. That entire late period of ECW was pretty shitty though so he fit right in.

Hated him as ECW World Champ. He didn't deserve to go over Sandman, Raven and Dreamer. I agree it should have been Rhino.

Like it was mentioned above, I think Heyman made him champion because he knew Credible wasn't going anywhere unlike Raven, Sandman, Awesome, or better talent.

I never had an issue with it but I'd only been watching for less than a year by the time it happened so I had no perception of good and bad wrestlers.
But I liked Credible as champion, him as the ECW champion is actually one of the main things I get a bit nostalgic about - that and Steve Corino bleeding all over Dusty Rhodes.

Eh, I didn't mind it at the time, but even then, I thought it was kind of like he just received a big push out of the blue. Yes, he was involved in some upper-midcard-level angles the year before, but I couldn't imagine him as the top heel of the company, at least not like on the level of how Raven was the top heel in the mid-1990's. Then again, the main event scene was confusing in 1999 and 2000. On one hand, you had RVD being the TV champion and it led to that title being more important than the world heavyweight title.

Couldn't get into the guy - and I say this having liked his work in the WWF before and after this.
I'm going to chalk it up to four things:
- Dumb ring attire. Tights under jean shorts. Pick one. (Legend had it that the tights were to cover up an Aldo Montoya-related tattoo on his leg.) - Stolen prop. - Horrible catchphrase based off a silly ring name. Just going by "Pete Polaco" would have been far more, uh, credible. - Surrounded by sad flunkies. Jason Knight, Nicole Bass, Jack Victory, etc. These were the best people he could find to hang out with him?

Dude's entire look and demeanor were just so obnoxious that he was bound to get heat.
I liked him from his time in the impact players, I even marked for that long ass catchphrase.

Things I'll give Justin some credit for,
Raven called him the best worker he ever wrestled with. Guy was great in the locker room and nobody has a bad thing to say about him during his ecw run.
That being said, my main complain with his run is that it wasn't organic. Heyman apparently give him the belt because there wasn't anyone available, a case of too much too soon.

I also didn't mind the attire or name terribly much, but I will grant that the flunkies left much to be desired. A better entourage would have probably helped lend some validity to him.

I recall an often expressed sentiment at the time was that Credible was so lame that he could only have been champ due to possessing incriminating photos of Paul Heyman.
