Capcom at least tries to win its fans back after doing dumb things. Konami seems to operate on pure spite of both their former employees and fans of their classic franchises.

Capcom did have - in the middle of that dark period where they nearly completely abandoned Mega Man - this as Street Fighter X Tekken DLC. Then just to rub salt in the wound, they gave him the Legends backstory.

Capcom also pretty much cancelled all Megaman related games at one point citing lack of interest. (Megaman Universe (which was pretty much Super Mario Maker before SMM), Megaman Legends 3, and I believe a few other things that I can't think of off the top of my head) I truly think his response to being in Smash as well as how much Money the Mighty Number 9 kickstarter made finally opened their damned eyes to the fact that people still liked the character. which is why they decided to make 11. I always love when developers or publishers randomly decide that people are no longer interested in something or are crazy about something based on nothing, and then are shocked that fans of something like it when you give them more of that thing. Like how Square-Enix decided people didn't want turn-based RPGs any more and were shocked when Bravely Default was a huge hit, despite it being the exact kind of games that put them on the map in the first place. Or Capcom (among others) deciding that horror games don't sell (in spite of the success of indie horror titles, although I don't consider that a good thing consider how shite most of them are) to justify the more action-oriented turn on the RE games. Then they try to make a horror game that doesn't suck and actually focuses on, crazy idea, horror, and what do you know? Turns out horror fans still like horror. Seriously, it's like a car manufacturer being shocked that people think round wheels work better than square ones.
