We all know the freebirds and Gino and Chris adams we're great rivals but who else was rumored to come in or would have been a great rival for them. I always heard Piper almost went in and the funks almost went in also.

You mean other than addiction and severe mental health issues?
I'd say pretty much any major heel. For that time the Von Erichs were mega over and I think anyone could have drawn with them.

General Akbar was a major thorn in their side over the years, sending his menagerie of monsters after them time after time.
Of course, there were "good friends of the family" like Bundy and Adidas that turned on them and feuded (Bundy was Fritz's retirement match and Adidas existed).
The Funks did feud with the Von Erichs, only it happened in Amarillo and the VE's were the bad guys.

I've been watching a LOT of World Class lately, and yeah, Akbar's army is right in it's beginning stages where I'm watching, and it's really cool to see the build-up. Kamala looks so f***ing young in 1983. Bundy, Kabuki, The Mongol, and Kamala is a weird, fun stable.

According to Cornette, there may have at least been some intentions to do a Midnight Express program with the Von Erichs, but that Gino and Chris Adams weren't looking to give up the security of their position and may have blocked it. The Express instead had a feud with the Fantastics, which was fine but not the big money matches they were hoping for, so they moved on elsewhere.

Don't ever remember seeing that on tapes etc.

Technically, he went by Brian Adias, but was billed as Brian Adidas by mistake at Starrcade 1984, and the Apter mags (for some reason) chose to keep calling him that for the next 2-3 years. Since the mags were how I knew of him, I tend to still call him that.

For some reason in my head I'd conflated the light heavy match at Starrcade 84 with with the second match on the card which was Adias'.

In a world of true fantasy booking, the '82/'83/'84 Von Erichs vs. the '86/'87 Four Horseman would have been pure gold.

Adams and Hernandez were some of my earliest favorites. As a very young kid I felt like I was a bad person for liking the heels
