Nice article, but I wouldn’t have referred to his time in the WWE as his “WWE career.” He only had a few appearances there, so he never made a career out of it.

"There once was a wrestler named Chris Harris who seemed to have talent and potential. Then he went to ECW and became fat Braden Walker" -Vinny V
"He had an expression on his face that I can only describe as 'dumb'. He stared at Storm dumbly like a dumb person would; a dumb fat guy"
I was a MASSIVE Chris Harris fan. His Texas Deathmatch with Storm is one of my favourite of all time and I genuinely believe he was one of TNA's biggest misses, as they could have given him the world title after that, but they killed him with Black Reign and that seemed to nuke his motivation.
Now I just remember that Bryan and Vinny clip.

I remember watching TNA's fairground days when they were on the wrestling channel. And I absolutely loved it. Raven was my guy, AJ Styles was really cool, the x division was great, and I was sure Chris Harris was going to be a star. Looking back there's tonnes you can criticise TNA for (I never saw the original, masturbating minis shows) but one thing they did really well was present Harris as a star. He constantly looked like he was going to breakthrough, even when then reformed AMW and did a cover version of the XXX feud. Ad then.., nothing. It well apart quicker than and ice cream cake next to a radiator. I can't point to a moment, but suddenly his aura was gone and he was just another guy, even before the Walker incident.
Maybe he lost the spark, maybe the booking wasn't strong enough, maybe he was overshadowed by more talented guys entering the company. But yOu can look at James Storm who managed to consistently be a top level guy during the promotion's peak. So, most likely, he never had it at all.

A fan online was going back and forth with Lance Storm, he was telling Lance that he should cut Harris some slack with his weight because the wwe had a wellness policy so it would be harder for Chris to get in shape, Lance then had the best response,
"Are sit-ups in the banned substance list?"

I remember being in the arena for his debut. Crowd was VERY silent. Probably the worse case of a wrestler getting no reaction that I've ever seen live. Wasn't until about 2 minutes into the match that I realized it was Chris Harris.
My only thought was "What in the hell happened"

In the early days of TNA I thought Harris had all the potential to be a star. He had an Edge meets Bret Hart vibe about him and I thought he could be really good. It is true he lost a lot of steam late in his TNA run, but man that whole Braden Walker deal in ECW just killed him forever.

After the Braden Walker debacle I tried giving Harris a chance because he was such a good wrestler in tna, but in subsequent indy and tna appearances he never recovered.
The Braden Walker era was as embarrassing of a moment that I've seen in wrestling.

Heres the thing I dont get, I always thought the developmental system was easier to stay in shape in. You may be doing lots of shows but its travel in a smaller area so more down time to work out. It usually seemed to me that when guys get called up and have to work the WWE schedule that their physique starts to get softer. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

It usually seemed to me that when guys get called up and have to work the WWE schedule that their physique starts to get softer. Anyone got any thoughts on this? Totally true, so it further highlights Harris' complete lack of motivation and dedication to his career at this stage (a feud with Black Reign will do that, but you'd hope someone would take an opportunity like this to work their nuts off and get their head back in the game. For example, remember when Armando Estrada came back as an active wrestler and was ripped? He did an interview about that and said he wasn't on the road so he just got paid to hit the gym, eat right and get himself looking great. Basically, if you can't make an impression with your physique and work ethic in Developmental, the issues are either injury (like Ohno) or a much deeper lying problem with their mentality.
