Not just from the fans but from the other wrestlers, I think they all forget that Rock actually used to work a full time WWE road schedule. Probably a schedule that was busier than what most current WWE guys are doing considering how hot the business was and how big a star Rock was. It's not like he's a celeb that's always been on a part time schedule, and it's not like he doesn't know what life is like constantly being on the road going from town to town, show to show.
It's just one of the things I hate about part timer criticism.

Given his approx. 7 year absence from WWE, I guess people are sour to see him just part-time after that.
Compare to the Undertaker, who had a mostly continuous career since 1990, and slowly phased into part-time status, so people would respect that more.
Maybe if Rock was full time for a year or two when he came back in 2011, they'd have less of a problem with him.
Personally, I'm happy to have part-time Rock. He can show up whenever he feels like it, as far as I'm concerned.

Honestly if he did it now I don’t think there’d be much of a problem. The problem was him being the first big name to come back just to take a main event spot during mania season then leave. But we’re so accustomed to that now that it wouldn’t really be an issue.

True, but he worked a full time schedule for what, 4 years? I think that was some of the resentment. Not that he went to Hollywood, but that he was already a part time wrestler by his late 20s. Guys like Taker, Austin, Foley, even Hogan had done it for over a decade. It felt like Rock was barely there before he bolted. Rock's full time WWF career was about as long as the character Bray Wyatt has been on the main roster. Let that sink in.
As a wrestling fan first and foremost, it sucked seeing a majority of the Rock's prime completely wasted for stuff like Scorpion King, Walking Tall, The Rundown, the Tooth Fairy and other B-Movie type stuff he was doing back then. Even if you liked those movies, I doubt anyone here thinks those existing is better than another 5+ years of full time prime Rock. I don't blame him as a person. He made a wise choice. But the wrestling fan in me still selfishly resents him leaving everytime I watch something from 1998-2001 and see how amazing The Rock was and realize got less of him than any major star in wrestling history.
