Hey FAN, got a bit of a technical question for ya. For my holiday gift this year, I was wanting to get either a new laptop or desktop, for the purposes of video editing. One that at the bare minimum can run Sony Vegas (or whatever is the popular editing software atm ). Would I be able to at least use common video editing software (such as used for editing YouTube videos, or any other similar form of video editing...and defintely NOT Windows Movie Maker. ) on a budget priced laptop, say...$100 USD?

You could definitely run Sony Vegas on a budget machine. Perhaps Adobe Premiere if you don't run anything else at the same time. The biggest hit in your performance you'll see is when you go to actually encode the final video. It will take you much longer on a lower end machine.
