Impact Wrestling superstar Ethan Carter III has filed documents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in an attempt to legally own his character’s name, stating that Ethan Carter III (real name Michael Hutter), wants to use the name for Entertainment Services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer, Entertainment services in the nature of live visual and audio performances by an actor and for conducting fitness classes.

The news comes shortly after Impact Wrestling made public comments, changing their policy on the intellectual property of their wrestler’s name, allowing the wrestlers to own their characters in the future. If Ethan Carter III faces no opposition, he should own the name in early 2018.

Sounds like yet more evidence we may soon see...

I don't think they have to use the tie to Dixie or really anyone. The name is enough to get that spoiled rich kid vibe going and he can play it up to having connections. I mean he's been doing it on the Indies for a few years now with success.

Hell, that was how Cornette got his start I believe. He was a spoiled rich kid using Mama Cornette's money to get everything he wanted but couldn't but off, Lawler I think, leading to a feud. Just fake a family member or something if it is really needed when/he gets back to WWE.

Superstar Billy Graham, Crazy Luke Graham and Mike Graham are all brothers and nephews of Dr. Jerry Graham in kayfabe, even if most of them never worked with one another. Rick Steamboat's "dad" Sam Steamboat was never mentioned in his "canon" again after he went to WWF.

Gene and Ole were tied to it pretty much the rest of their careers, and Lars was too, to a large degree (and Lars certainly didn't fit the balding/pudgy trope). Even CW tried to keep playing up his non-existent connection to the others for a very long time (and he's the only post-Crockett guy I consider an official "Anderson" beyond Brad and Bryant, due to Arn giving his blessing to use the name).

Lars was Gene and Ole's "brother" - you're thinking of Bryant, who was Ole's legit son.
