It's a matter of "when," not "if."

Could they pull off a Roman/Samoa Joe double turn?

“Can’t turn Cena heel because of merch sales”.
CM Punk does great merch numbers, turns heel at the peak of his babyface run just so he could job to Rock, who would then job to Cena to a chorus of boos.
Yeah, Cena remaining a face was likely more stubbornness than anything related to financial benefit.

Yeah, Cena remaining a face was likely more stubbornness than anything related to financial benefit. My understanding was that Cena still sold more than anyone else. Hell up until recently the story was Cena was still making double that everyone else was. (not that I think that Stubbornness isn't one of the reasons Cena didn't turn)

Did Cena ever turn heel? Now imagine compounding that with an older, more stubborn Vince. Until the day he steps down the chance feels like pretty much zero. He will never step down. The guy is such a workaholic and control freak that he'll never retire, he'll die during a house show in a small town and in his dying words he'll order that the show must continue. The only way I see Reigns turning heel is if someone surpasses him as the top babyface.

He will, but way past when it would have done anything for business.

I doubt it. They feel that as long as he's getting a reaction from a paying crowd, they don't care. They can easily tell their commentators to push a narrative that he's "controversial" like they did with Cena. In any case, they not only don't know how to write heels and faces anymore, I think they genuinely believe that the audience doesn't care about characters and storylines anymore, but just attend WWE events for the spectacle and don't give a shit why these wrestlers are wrestling, as long as they get to see suicide dives and superman punches.

The guy the fans boo and want to see lose is the heel. Reigns has been in that position several times.
Will he ever take on a more "bad guy" persona? Probably one of these days, but it may be years from now.

Nope. He will turn. He's not like Cena where he's never acting heel or playing heel in his matches. He does do that, they're just too stubborn to turn him. Agreed. He'll turn. We'll all love him, and he'll reinvent himself just like The Usos did. I bet they have his new badass heel music on a harddrive somewhere ready to be used. It won't be nearly as powerful as it would have been Post-Mania after beating the Undertaker, sadly, as he could have been THE heel in the company, but it'll happen.

Cena is still going to have his heel run, and it will be glorious. I just hope it's as good as Hogan's

It'll be an effective turn but not near to the level it could have been after the Taker match, Trips match or hell Lesnar match.

no he won't turn face, but I think his alignment will be more ambiguous than Cena's act.

That's what is the funniest to me. It irks people so much that they haven't turned him yet. But if they turned him after retiring Taker, he's now a heel who is going to get more positive reactions. Which is the inverse of the same dynamic! Fans will never hate him as much as they do when he's pushed as a top face, and they'll never cheer him as much as they give him shit. So why quell his heat in order to conform to a heel/face structure that effectively died in the 90's? Just let him be a face that everybody hates. I don't get why so many people get caught up on it. But as long as they do, I kinda wanna see WWE just keep going with it.

If Vince ever suddenly dies then Reigns will turn heel. He'll probably turn heel at the funeral. I would not be shocked if it was written into Vince's will that his funeral be used for a heel turn.

Of course they must be aware of how a heel turn saved Rocks career, revitalized Bret's, pulled Hogan back from the brink of hasbeen into another stellar run, hell even Miz saved his career by turning heel (and if he ever does turn face again this brilliant heel work means his potential next face run will be more warmly received than the Ric Flair jr debacle that was last time). Edge, Orton, Punk, Rollins ect all stayed relevant by turning just in time, Reigns should have turned during the Cena feud but its not too late, I expect him to turn a few months after winning the title at WM.
Cena is an abnormally, I'm sure they wanted to pull the trigger at many points and if they had done so it would have worked well but the PR stuff particularly with the troops and make a wish stayed their hand which is understandable. Cena is too good at that stuff to let him go.
