My wife texted me at work and said he appeared on his way out. I am home now and he is definitely struggling to breathe and isn’t particularly responsive. Unfortunately, I don’t have anywhere to take him until morning. Not sure if I want him to last until then or not. Just make his last moments as comfortable as possible.

We found a vet that was open an hour and some away from home. We brought him to be put to sleep but he passed on his own before the procedure.

it all came so fast. His first seizure literally happened exactly one week ago. Until then, he seemed quite healthy and happy. Exactly one week later he dies on his own accord. It’s jarring and none of us have quite processed it yet.

Sorry to hear.
Are you going to bury it or cremate it?

He’s going to be cremated and we’ll get him back in about 2 weeks. We got a paw print if him done before we left.

I'm so sorry. At least you know you did the best you could for him, and he was loved & cared for his whole life.

I'm sorry about your loss. Not looking foward to it with either of my cats (who turn 17 next month)
I'm taking them to the vet tomorrow for their first examination in 6-7 years. One of them needs a canine tooth pulled (it's jutting out of her mouth at a weird angle) and the other has a weird wound on the inside of her leg.
Neither of them are big on traveling in a carrier. The last few times they've been in one, they ended up at the vet or in another state altogether.

The last few times they've been in one, they ended up at the vet or in another state altogether. There are cat treats that have melatonin in them. If you give it to them about 20-30 minutes before you leave they tend to travel much better. Ata used to panic and become a drooling mess in the car and those helped.

I miss having a vet that makes house calls - it was worth the extra $ to not have a pair of screaming, panting felines

I'm sorry for your loss. They become part of the family very quickly and when you do lose them, it may be different from losing a human member of the family, but it's not necessarily any easier, just slightly different. You have to give yourself and your family time to grieve and get used to him being gone.
I think that, as shocking as it might have been, having it all happen so quickly is better than having to deal with long drawn out health problems where you're constantly arguing with yourself over what to do. He was obviously well loved and looked after and, up until the last week, lived a happy life.

Sorry for your loss man. I know from experience how awful losing a cat is, but if nothing else it wasn't a long drawn-out process, and you gave him 7 years in a loving home.

F***ing radio had to play “The Year of the Cat” today as I was running some of the errands I had been neglecting.
It’s weird. I’ve had pets pass away before but none have hit me as hard as this one did. Part of it is probably due to how it all went down. Another part is due to my children’s reactions to this event. The rest is just due to how attached we all became to our baby boy.

It also doesn’t help that prior to this all starting I was dealing with some aspects of my mom’s estate and it brought back my feelings regarding her suicide. My nerves were already raw when he got sick.
