What the heck is this? I just saw an ad for the rebooted Man vs. Food and am perplexed that they would bring this back after 5 years and with not having cable I was unaware that they made this. The whole appeal to me in the past was just how likeable Adam was not the challenges themselves. Is this new guy entertaining at all? My previous favorite episodes were always the heat ones.

Didn’t Adam end up really screwing the pooch on social media somehow?

I don't trust the new guy because of his mustache.
Yes. I'm that judgmental of a bad mustache.

Didn’t Adam end up really screwing the pooch on social media somehow? Something about weight shaming or something similar I believe, plus inadvertently bad-mouthing the premise of the show after he'd lost some weight himself. Either way, he's seemed like a jackass for quite a while to me so meh to that guy.

He tried to get the hashtag "thinspiration" trending after losing a bunch of weight, and some people got on his back about promoting anorexia - which, IMO, was a reach, since he'd dropped to a regular, healthy weight. In response he told someone “Grab a razor blade and draw a bath. I doubt anyone will miss you.” Travel Channel cut ties with him immediately.

As I recall there were other things he said, but that particular comment was the straw that broke the camel's back for the Travel Channel.

I could be off-base on this, but I don't think most people were saying he was anorexic; I think (again, could be wrong) that the "thinspiration" hashtag is often associated with people either promoting anorexia/bulimia or otherwise playing into body image issues like that. My guess is that he wasn't aware of that and had a not-so-great reaction, that others in turn had not so great reactions, and then he made a schmuck of himself and basically told someone to commit suicide, as you describe. It's too bad, too; I kind of enjoyed the original series, both because I find weird culinary stuff interesting but more because I liked getting a decent look at the various cities and towns the restaurants were located in. They still promote his appearance down at The Chicken or the Egg in Beach Haven, NJ, when he beat the Ludicrous Wings challenge. That sauce is the devil.

Yeah, he seemed to get himself in a better position but I can kind of see why that'd be taken the wrong way. Well, at least he didn't take it the wrong way and ruin his own caree... Oh. Oh no.

He lost me at the "Grab a razor blade and draw a bath. I doubt anyone will miss you" line, but if I were in his shoes, having ballooned to an unhealthy weight but then worked hard and wanted to show off my physique, I'd absolutely tell people trying to "shame" me to f**k right off.

I loved the heat challenges. You could see the sheer misery in the guys face and that was entertaining.
Too many of the portion type food challenges get into "cartoon stupid". It has to be actually attainable even if only 1% of the people can do it. Eating 20lbs of cheeseburgers isn't a challenge. It's impossible. That would be like a company saying they'll give a million to a charity if the Browns score 100 points in the Superbowl next year. What's the damn point?
Food challenges work best when it's something you "might" be able to finish on the hungriest day of your life.

I haven’t watched the new show, but I assume from the commercials that the host is Danny Tamborelli.

Yeah I was wondering about that guy. I googled him last year when the show was on Netflix and wondered if he ever had any ill affects from all that food. Never found much, so was surprised to not hear something like he got diabetes or super fat or something. I did think something was up when it turned in Man vs Food nation and he let other people do the eating

The hashtag is what did him in. I get what he was trying to go for, but knowing what thinspiration stood for and then not acknowledging that he made a mistake was an issue. Their is no shame in saying that he made a mistake and still being proud that he lost all of that weight.
