Fits his persona. For all the shit Cody gets wrestling-wise from some of the diehard nj fans, his character work is fun to watch. Certainly, and frankly, he pulled the Bullet Club out of a rut they were in when Adam Cole's run was kind of a mess. Not saying that Omega hasn't stepped it up, he has, but Cody's joining definitely pointed the group in a more interesting direction than it was in before him.

I thought her little promo during the entrance was good, as was some of the spots during the match. Seems like she's comin into her own as a valet. Admittedly I haven't seen much of her actually wrestling and such, but valet/manager seems a good role. Yeah I liked her entrance trash talk and thought she played her role well in the match. First time I've actually seen her as a valet but I was impressed. All in all much as I have major reservations about how bloated Bullet Club is, and wish it was still Tama squabbling with Kenny for leadership, I'm onboard with Cody atm and do not get the critics.

Thought I heard he had it dyed for a role he was playing for a show or movie, but not 100% on that; I mean, for his Final Battle entrance it worked great as a Rhodes family tribute, but I can see why some feel it looks odd on him. Notably, during the backstage interviews at New Years Dash Tama was still shit talking Kenny for how poorly the courtship of Jay White went; very passive-aggressive, but he's keeping that little background conflict going.

I didn't like the blonde at first, but by the end of his match at WK, I was sold. It fits him perfectly.
And yeah, I never have and never will get the Cody hate. Dude has delivered well above expectations in every aspect since he left WWE, and he only seems to be getting better. I just chalk the haters up to the usual IWC attitude of "I love this guy! Wait, he's actually gaining success? Well then, f*** him!"
For another great example, see Cole, Adam. People were ready to kill for him to come to NXT. The second he did and made an immediate impact, they hated him for...reasons.

I love it. He's reinvented himself into a cartoony over the top villain (no offense Marty) again and the blonde hair just makes him look creepy as hell. It works perfectly.
I haven't been too keen on him after leaving WWE, but his run with the ROH Title, and the way he presented himself at WK12 I'm glad Cody is finally finding a niche character he can sink his teeth into.
The American Nightmare is slowly becoming an actual persona and not just a catchy nickname.
The only thing I don't like is his entrance song. He needs something darker and more 'maniacal' to fit the character.
And I hope Brandi continues to evolve as his heel valet/manager, she did wonderfully during the match at WK12. They're both starting to play off of each other perfectly.
I hope this keeps evolving, Cody is hands down the best character actor in wrestling, and this has a shit ton of potential behind it without a WWE there to hold him back.

The only thing I don't like is his entrance song. He needs something darker and more 'maniacal' to fit the character. I think this complaint applies to the indies and NJPW in general. Most wrestlers have kickass songs for their entrances, but few of them work as themes because there's a disconnect between the music and the character.

His short moment of peace before he's miserable again.

Is it just me that thinks it sounds like a Jimmy Hart version of EC3's song? Cody's theme sounds like a freaking WWE theme because he's using f***ing Downstait. I actually like how shitty his tinny little metal trash theme is. Makes him an even bigger douchebag still. If he had an awesome character fitting theme he wouldn't be as dislikable. And the dissonance is what makes Minoru's entrance work. It's like the hair was, and the little hat he wears backstage. "This sociopathic miserable monster of a man looks like that and enters to THIS song?" The intro is like a death chill settling on the arena.
