Ring of Honor “the Bitter End”
November 4th, 2006
From the National Guard Armory in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Commentators: Dave Prazak and Jared David
Samoa Joe is ready for his “Dream Partner” Tag Team Match tonight against Brian Danielson. He introduces his partner: Nigel McGuinness.
Matt Cross vs. Christopher Daniels w/Allison Danger
This was solid but unremarkable. Christopher Daniels as a “face” just doesn’t work for me. Allison Dangers ass was the highlight of this match.
Winner: Christopher Daniels
Afterwards Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli attacked them both. Eventually Austin Aries, Roderick Strong and Matt Sydal come to the rescue.
Jim Cornette and Shane Hagadorn come to the ring to announce that if he doesn’t end Homicides career tonight Steve Corino will. Then he goes off on an anti-Mexican promo. He sets the rules for tonight’s main-event (which was scheduled to be Homicide verses Steve Corino in a Fight Without Honor): Shane Hagadorn is the special referee, anything goes FOR STEVE CORINO and Homicide must pin Corino for a ten count. This brings the Rottweilers out and whatever; I don’t have time for this. Konnan is with them tonight. *fast forward*
Shane Hagadorn vs. Ricky Reyes w/Julius Smokes
This wasn’t as one sided as you’d expect but it sucked as much as you’d expect.
Winner: Ricky Reyes
Four Corners Survival Match
Pelle Primeau vs. Tank Toland vs. BJ Whitmer vs. Colt Cabana
This started out pretty ridiculous and I was worried but ended up better than I expected. Tank Toland was pretty stiff and Pelle Primeau could take a hell of a beating.
Winner: Pelle Primeau
The Briscoes tell Davey Richards tonight he’s gonna have to “Man Up”.
Dream Tag Team Partner Match
Brian Danielson & Jimmy Rave vs. Samoa Joe & Nigel McGuinness
This match was f***ing BORING. The problem was it was mostly Brian Danielson and Jimmy Rave keeping Nigel McGuinness from tagging Samoa Joe in but in the most boring ways imaginable. It was good for the last thirty seconds when Joe got his hands on Danielson and they fought to the backstage area.
Winners: Samoa Joe & Nigel McGuinness
Afterwards Jimmy Rave seemed pretty mad at a guy in the crowd and I’m not sure if it was a work or a shoot. Nigel told him to “grow up” but that seemed like it could’ve been a shoot too.
Jim Cornette comes out and yells some more. Shane Hagadorn is injured now and can’t referee; so he cancels the main event and fires Homicide. The Rottweilers come back out and Konnan says the Ring of Honor ownership has decided to let the crowd decided who keeps their job: Jim Cornette or Homicide. The crowd chooses Homicide so Cornette is fired.
The Briscoes vs. Delirious & Davey Richards
This was okay. The most entertaining part was Bobby Cruise having to make and announcement during the match for someone to move their illegally parked car, twice.
Winners: the Briscoes
Lacey says that Colt Cabana disgusts her. Daizee Haze comes out, gets in her face and challenges her to a match.
For the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships
The Kings of Wrestling (champions) vs. Austin Aries & Roderick Strong
This show lost me about ninety minutes ago and Roderick Strong isn’t the guy who’s bringing me back.
Winners: the Kings of Wrestling via disqualification
Afterwards they all fight in the crowd.
Matt Sydal w/Christopher Daniels vs. KENTA
This was better but it’s almost too late for me.
Winner: KENTA
As KENTA is making his farewell speech (this was his last match in Ring of Honor for quite some time) Samoa Joe comes out and calls him one of the finest competitors in the world. He asks KENTA to give the Japanese wrestling scene a message: a nice slap to the face. They fight and the lockeroom clears to break them up.
Fight Without Honor
Steve Corino w/Team Corino vs. Homicide w/Julius Smokes
This was an okay hardcore brawl. It was particularly nasty when Homicide was working Corinos ear. The crowd was f***ing dead though and it really killed the match. An electric crowd would’ve made it feel like it meant something (which it did, it was the end of their four year feud) rather than making it feel like a random match on the undercard.
Winner: Homicide
Homicide demands Corino let him shave his head to end their feud. Corino praises him and lets him do it.
Colt Cabana is pretty mad at Jimmy Jacobs and Lacey. But BJ Whitmer has his back.
___________________________________________________________________________________________
This show was so boring. I know what it was but I was having such a hard time staying focused the whole time. But it wasn’t just me. The crowd was so silent you could hear a pin drop except during the really big spots and dives. And it was in Philadelphia of all places. You’d expect a crowd there to be a little more electric OR verbally abusive if they weren’t liking what they were seeing.
The in-ring segments really killed this show for me. I prefer Ring of Honor because they don’t focus on that stuff as much. The stuff with Cornette wasn’t nearly as grating as some of the shit during a WWE show but it was also kinda “bush league“ and it was hard to care. Cornette is funny sometimes but I never really care when he’s the on-screen authority figure. The poor audio quality of the house mics didn’t help. And they ate up a lot of time and brought this show to almost three hours and fifteen minutes, which is a bit long for a wrestling show to me.
The Matt Sydal verses KENTA match and the main event were both decent. But this wasn’t a very good show on all levels so I can’t recommend it.
