I'm watching the past Royal Rumbles ahead of this year's event, and in the title match between Undertaker and Yokozuna, we have one of the most ridiculous, cartoony and corny endings to a title match in history. It's impossible to suspend disbelief and there is no need to explain what happened with the urn, smoke, levitation etc.
However, with Taker needing time off to rest injuries, what would have been a better and more realistic way to write him out, without the supernatural nonsense, to sell his absence?
Did it need to be a casket match? Could Yokozuna have just been disqualified in a normal match due to a huge beatdown? What would you have done

I am fine with it, honestly. Like, the only other thing I could think of is something like if Yokozuna dropped a leg or senton onto a chair around Undertaker's leg or neck or something, and that is not something I would feel comfortable risking with quite his size. Stomping would be safer, but it'd need to be something really over the top for it. It's Taker.

It kills of Taker's original character, he comes back even stronger that Summer, and got revenge on Yoko at Survivor Series, for a nice year long storyline

If you couldn't suspend your disbelief in the mid-90s, you were watching the wrong thing. That was the most cartoony period of all.

I thought the 10-man beatdown itself was a great storytelling piece. You have all these heels from the locker room who have had enough of Taker being seemingly unstoppable, so they all decide to just gang up on the MF'er and get rid of him. That would have been perfectly fine on its own.

It's a decent little brawl of a match with a terrible ending. But that was also mid-90's WWF, so...

Maybe Yoko could burn the casket, then eat it.

Way over the top, but it fits for the time period. I watched that match a few years ago and enjoyed the ending. Yeah it's completely unbelievable, but wrestling is unbelievable.

It legit scared me as a 7 year old. But later, it was so bad it was good. The cartoony shit made it watchable. The only thing I criticize in retrospect is that they buried most of the heels on the roster by having this gang of bad guys who couldn't keep down Taker for 10 minutes, and at various points were getting their asses kicked. For as bad as people say DX/Spirit Squad was at times, it was 2 guys taking on 5, not 1 guy taking on 10.

To be fair all they needed was the 10 guys (to protect him in his own speciality match) to help Yoko put Taker in the Casket and then maybe do a burial scenario and we literally do not hear from Undertaker again until June when the bells begin to toll during Yokozuna matches, build to Yoko being terrified by this presence and do all the hokey darkness and smoke before a big return promo and a rematch at Summerslam.
