Deonna Purrazzo was telling me about how long and hard Marty was making those wings over the weekend, she helped him out throughout the process.

Haven't seen the match so for those who have... Does his in ring work reflect the look and gimmick in anyway whatsoever? This is a massive bugbear I have with a lot of guys, especially out of the UK right now where the in ring work has no reflection on the persona. Because the look is awesome but it's for nought if he does nothing more than that. This is the exact problem I have with Ospreay and ZSJ, I think both are criminally overrated because they have either very poor match psychology (Ospreay has to do a lot to win me back after the Ricochet match), or are characterless and charisma-devoid in ring (ZSJ). Scurll doesn't have this problem. He's f***ing fantastic. WK12 is the first match of his I've seen and man, he's good. His work fits his gimmick perfectly and of the 3 of them, he's miles ahead of Ospreay and ZSJ in every aspect IMO. Also, I notice that Scurll without the beard looks uncannily like a friend of mine. I haven't been following his NJPW work, but have heard that ZSJ has improved in that regard in his work with Suzuki-gun

Instead of dude doing cool holds and transitions for the sake of cool holds and transitions, he's got more of a mean streak and comes off as someone who is trying to bend, stretch and break his opponents. They really play up the Suzuki protege angle, not sure if that carries over to his work outside of NJPW tho

And when you (generic you) come off as bored, you (generic you) come off as boring.

I'm so proud of Marty — I was basically in on the ground floor of his career, saw him compete in FWA idol in about 2004, and watched him take his career from there. One of the few reasons I would ever consider going back to watching wrestling is to see Marty perform.

I think this is what makes Marty stand out the most in the UK. There's a lot of great talent (perhaps more per-square mile than anywhere) but the level of presentation of the majority is severely lacking compared to those in the States and Japan. I don't think it's any coincidence that Marty has taken his look to the next level and finds himself in the position he's in now, so hopefully others will follow suit.

Just realized his theme sort of sounds like a dubstep remix of Light of the Seven from Game of Thrones

He doesn't sell ANYTHING that happens in the ring, he just constantly looks like a robot functioning on backup battery and when he has bumped he just lies there waiting to get back up. It pisses me off so much.

It pisses me off so much. I saw him get brutally murdered by KENTA in Wolverhampton years ago. He sold then and got great sympathy. Possibly because KENTA murderised him good, but still, he can do it. He just doesn't. Nothing connects with him.
