I didn't see a separate thread on this. Holy shit, was his entrance amazing. This was the first time I've watched a Scurll match and I was hooked from the beginning of his entrance to the end of the match. His character work was off the charts.
It made me really wish they had decided to use those cool steampunk wings they were designing for Becky Lynch

Absolutely loved it myself, too.
The plague era Doctors mask, steampunk goggles, the top hat, the umbrella, just everything.
And then he performed solidly in the match to boot.
Marty has a great character going on right now.

Check Instagram, Cody posted a pic of Marty putting the costume together backstage at the Dome; dude brought all the material on his flight and put the outfit together himself before his match.

Marty is one of my favorite personalities in wrestling right now. He's got a perfect blend of over-the-top wrestling showmanship, playing to the crowds and keeping up with other fast-paced workers.

Marty is in the top tier of talent in the industry, regardless of the company.
It's a character that would suit WWE down to the ground, but being apart of the Bullet Club, I genuinely don't think it's a huge thing for him at this moment in his career to go to WWE. He does more than fine as he is.

I find it endearing he worked so hard on it on his own.

Marty has toned down the character since joining BC, but he's still top notch imo. Hopefully he finally gets to break out in 2018 in ROH and New Japan.

He's also got the best theme in wrestling, in my opinion.

I don't know whether it was kind of dumb or really awesome, but Marty and Takahashi using the medicine box outside the ring as some sort of magical Potion from Final Fantasy and suddenly being 100% recovered from their broken fingers.

Scurll is the f***ing man. I'd easily place him in the top 10 best wrestlers in the world right now.

At the risk of ruining my own suspension of disbelief, how does he get THAT sound when “breaking” the fingers???
Does he snap his fingers, someone slaps their thigh? Does he have those little snaps fireworks?
It’s a beautiful spot every time he does it, gut wrenching, and I love how he sells the move, on OFFENSE!
Just gotta know.

Best I can tell, he slaps his elbows against his sides as he's doing the snap

Haven't seen the match so for those who have...
Does his in ring work reflect the look and gimmick in anyway whatsoever? This is a massive bugbear I have with a lot of guys, especially out of the UK right now where the in ring work has no reflection on the persona.
Because the look is awesome but it's for nought if he does nothing more than that.

This is the exact problem I have with Ospreay and ZSJ, I think both are criminally overrated because they have either very poor match psychology (Ospreay has to do a lot to win me back after the Ricochet match), or are characterless and charisma-devoid in ring (ZSJ). Scurll doesn't have this problem. He's f***ing fantastic. WK12 is the first match of his I've seen and man, he's good. His work fits his gimmick perfectly and of the 3 of them, he's miles ahead of Ospreay and ZSJ in every aspect IMO. Also, I notice that Scurll without the beard looks uncannily like a friend of mine.

That's good to know. Ospreay and ZSJ are 2 of the worst culprits but it's a massive issue for me on the UK scene right now. People with a gimmick theyvery clearly given a lot of time to in terms of look etc, then just work a generic indy style in the ring. Like, whats the point?
